Subject: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: John MacKenzie Date: 11 Jul 11 - 12:36 PM The Beckhams, have named their new baby girl Harper Seven? Why not, the Birmingham Five The Austin Seven or The Jackson Five.? So much choice, so little brain. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Michael Date: 11 Jul 11 - 01:04 PM Harper? Bizzare. Seven was apparently his number in a team he once played football in. Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: GUEST, topsie Date: 11 Jul 11 - 01:19 PM There has been speculation that the other children's names have some connection to the circumstances of the conception. Still mystifying though. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: gnu Date: 11 Jul 11 - 01:40 PM Since they named her Harper perhaps the meant "Severn" but coulnn't spell it? And, will "Harpie" be a suitable nickname? Good LORD! The thread title is bang on. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: gnu Date: 11 Jul 11 - 01:42 PM or "Harp"... even just Harper is gonna get a go especially after she... nevermind. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 11 Jul 11 - 03:24 PM If she's Harper Seven, it stands to reason that there would have been other Harpers, numbered One through Six. What happened to them? Should there be an investigation? |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Jul 11 - 05:34 PM I knew a guy in college whose nickname was Tertius. His real name was something like Richard Hagworth III. I believe Tertius is Latin for "third." I suspect the first and the second were quite well off. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: GUEST,leeneia Date: 11 Jul 11 - 06:14 PM Yes, Jim. I once read a book by a man who named his cats that way. Tertius, an orange male that he was especially fond of, was his third cat. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Richard Bridge Date: 11 Jul 11 - 09:56 PM I think, apart from the nicknaming possibilities, that "Harper" is quite a nice name, redolent of Anne McCaffrey heroines. Seven, on the other hand...! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Ebbie Date: 11 Jul 11 - 10:42 PM Harper - Bizarre.... ? I protest. Weakly. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: gnomad Date: 12 Jul 11 - 12:16 AM I'm with Richard Bridge on this one (got to say that, it doesn't happen all that often) Harper sounds OK, though it does offer some unkind possibilities in the nickname line. They might even have chosen it after Harper Lee, though somehow one would doubt it. Mind you, Seven is beyond me, but when I think of some of the abominations that other "celebs" have perpetrated it seems pretty innocuous. It has no obvious drawbacks of mispronunciation or association, and should be easy enough to spell. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Gurney Date: 12 Jul 11 - 03:04 AM Could be worse. Some idiot named his child after the entire England team in 1966. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 12 Jul 11 - 03:41 AM Harper Lee wrote 'To Kill A Mocking Bird'. Perhaps the Beckams are an unexpectedly literary couple! My husband thought I'd said "They've called their little girl 'Half past seven'. He thought 'Twenty-to-ten' might have done just as well! |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Dave Hanson Date: 12 Jul 11 - 03:45 AM But Harper Lee's full name was, Nell Harper Lee. Dave H |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: GUEST,livelylass Date: 12 Jul 11 - 05:38 AM Harper Seven makes me think of a "divorced workaholic tough female boss" character from some US series about surgeons or lawyers or... She drinks too much to help her deal with the stress that such a high powered career causes, and of course she has a problematic relationship with her Mother who whines that she never gets in touch. There's an attractive (in a roguish way) male colleague in the picture who wants to get closer to her, but she's all wounded and defensive plus she's married to her job, so the foreplay can continue for three series.. I expect there's an ugly freckly little kid she spawned with the ex (a modern superdad in cords) and she never gets to his birthday party, bla bla.. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: autolycus Date: 12 Jul 11 - 06:01 AM I suspect the nicknames Harper will acquire will be '7-Up' or 'Secret', the latter being quite appropriate, for a Cancerian. |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: Michael Date: 12 Jul 11 - 06:06 AM Thanks Wesley for reposting my comment of 01;04 but I didn't really think it was that good! Mike |

Subject: RE: BS: It's my turn for the brain cell From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 12 Jul 11 - 09:44 AM I know Dave, and 'Nell' is infinitely better than 'Harper'. She'll get called 'Harpic' I expect. And hundreds of pea-brains will follow suit. There'll be hordes of poor little tots called Harper enrolling at nursery school! |
