If you listen carefully to the background of SpongeBob SquarePants on Nickelodeon, you'll here some rather nice melodeon, concertina, and whistle music. I've watched the music credits...it isn't credited.

Anybody know where it comes from? It sounds to me a lot like an older instrumental album done in the Northeast known as 'Wind in the Rigging' but I could be wrong. It's quiet and in snippets.

Greg (going to the cemetary with Squidward to visit his hopes and dreams)

Spongebob Squarepants? Somebody watches that? (writes a parent who has been caught watching Courage the Cowardly Dog, and Ed Edd and Eddie, without children around....)

Actually, I had noticed that music. Hope we get an answer!

Spongebob does kind of grow on you, doesn't he? I actually got caught laughing out loud more than once while watching it. Dexter's Laboratory is still my favorite though.

I mentioned SpongeBob to a friend of mine and he commented that SpongeBob gives plankton a bad name.

The wild thornberries! Forgot about them! And my kids and I all like the PBS ones about computers. But the Hey Arnold school of shows, Recess and those, I can't "relate" to as I didn't go to American schools (for want of a more exact term for those hotbeds of popularity and bullying with no education that I could discern)... but back to the thread, sorry!

My kids like Sponge Bob but my favourite was Rex the Runt. They don't show it any more on Canadian TV.

My current guilty pleasures are Samuri Jack and Dexter's Lab (especially the super hero co-features). It would be nice if some cable outlet could pick up two british series -- Danger Mouse and Count Duckula. Nik used to run them until the dawn of Ren and Stimpy, after which the Niktoons began to proliferate and dominate.

Also, Three cheers for Pinky and the Brain!!!

Danger Mouse is great! I miss that one too. Especially the "custard" episode and the "potty part of the universe".

Dear Cats, I odn't know anyone that can explain the Svengalian attraction that Sponebob has. I admit that I too am addicted to the little yellow guy. Everyone that I know think I'm nuts. Don't you think that Mermaidman and Barnacleboy are hilarious! EVERY VILLIAN IS LEMONS!!! Later! K.

Waah!! You guys are aggravating my cable-withdrawal symptoms! I miss SpongeBob and Patrick and Sandy, and Arnold and Helga, and Eliza Thornberry, and Chuckie Fenster, and Courage, and Bubbles, Blossom and Buttercup, and Johnny Bravo, and... and... okay, I was watching too much cable.

Fear not, SharonA. The Powerpuff Girls movie will be out in theaters next month. My daughter has the date circled on the calendar. Watch out, Mojo Jojo!

I'm reviving this thread because perhaps more people have
now watched the show and recognized the tunes.

Obviously the theme is a variant of 'Blow the Man Down.'

Lately one of the incidental tunes has been a fine anglo
concertina rendering of the minor-key air to the transportation
ballad '10,000 Miles Away.'

But I'm still not recognizing a couple of the Morris tunes
as well as a real nice hornpipe played on concertina.

Oh yeah, guilty pleasures.....

love SpongeBob.

Anyone see the one where Squidward has his heart set on the band concert? Can't remember laughing that hard at anything else. Plankton playing the harmonica.... I snort even now thinking of it!

Dani

How about 'The Flintstones' or 'Leave it to Beaver', they have great music too. Or perhaps, 'Rocket Robin Hood', or 'The Friendly Giant, (you know with Rusty and Jerome) I bet the Giant was Irish, what with the way he played that flute and all. Oh, so much to choose from !

I should be able to get that here on YTV. Probably wont, though, mostly like the older cartoons (see above), as I was a kid back in the 1960's LOL.
