Subject: RE: Songs from the Mudcat Worldwide Singaround From: GerryM Date: 24 Feb 24 - 12:54 AM Joan, the purpose of these posts is to give any readers wandering by some idea of what was done at these singarounds. For that reason, I try to use the titles by which people are most likely to recognize the songs (poems, monologues, instrumentals, ...). I think "Black Girl" is going to ring a bell for many more people than "Little Girl", so that's what I use. Titles aside for the moment, and looking at lyrics, I know that you chose to sing "Little girl" and not "Black girl", and that you have good reasons for doing so, reasons to which I cannot object. I think Leadbelly recorded it both ways – here is a recording where he sang "Black girl": https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=28KEs9xq6X0 It occurs to me that the song also goes by the name, Where Did You Sleep Last Night?, so I'm going to edit that in as an aka. |
