We started the Mudcat Worldwide Singaround at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and it was clear my trusty 10-year-old Lenovo computer was not going to carry the burden. So, I bought a Dell Inspiron computer, since it was the only one available for immediate delivery during COVID. It sucked, although I have to admit it was an improvement over my 10-yr-old computer. I upped the RAM to 32 GB, and it still sucked. It improved quite a bit with the Windows 11 upgrade, but it was still a bit balky. So, finally, I upgraded to a Dell XPS computer, and the new comnputer gives me the performance I wanted in the first place.
But in the process, I did a lot of exploration. I found this website from Crucial, which manufactures RAM and such:Oftentimes, a RAM upgrade will give you a couple of more years of service, so it's worth checking - it kept me going for ten years on my Lenovo. And the utility Crucial offers is fun.

The Crucial site is good for telling you the maximum memory a machine will take and the exact spec. But if it's an old machine it's cheaper to buy used memory on ebay.

Crucial will sell me a 4GB stick for our 2013 laptop for £25. I can 'buy it now' it on ebay for half that. I'm currently bidding £10 - inc postage. I can wait.

I tried the Crucial .exe and it told me that my Lenovo E73 Thinkcentre is "above average" so I leave well alone!!
