They had to put him down this morning. My gosh that hurts so much. He was a great little dog. Of all the dogs I ever owned he was the best of the best. I will miss my little Buddie more than words can say

Been there, done that...have the scars, the memories. I lost my Daphne back in 2008...and still miss her dearly.

I'm so sorry! I haven't had pets, myself, but I know, from talking with friends, that it's very similar to a close human's passing.

Thank you my friends really hurts but it was for the best. He was fine yesterday but stroked during the night nothing anyone could do his heart was failing and everything shut down so sad

Sorry to hear about this. It's hard to describe just how important a dog can be to folk. After five years I still miss mine so much, and she went in a similar way. She died in my arms.

Aw, so sorry, Dan! One of the hardest things I ever had to do was take my Clancy in for the final time. Sinsull and Jacqui took us in, and then they took Jason and I out and got us drunk afterwards.

Sorry to read this, Dan. We've had to do the sad trip to the vet more than once. It's harder when it happens suddenly and you're not prepared. Even if you are prepared, it's not easy. White light to you.

if he stroked, he may never have really felt any fear...

I still remember finding our first dog laying by his house having had a stroke... he'd been a member of the family since I was a baby...

we left for school so upset and came home to our first cat. He was a great dog and she was a great cat... and I remember them as if it were last week not 50+ years ago.

Yeah they break our hearts. He was stuck like glue to me. Sat on my lap when I worked. Sneak in bed when I was sleeping. He was my best buddy for lots of years silly old wiener dog

I find myself sobbing like a little girl. I didn't even get upset at open heart surgery just said fix it but an old little dog tears me up go figure

Sending love and heaps of sympathy, Dan. A companion animal is family and less demanding and challenging than many family members. There's no way to make the loss less painful, is there - but remember the good times and think of him now running free of pain.

Before I got this 'new' little dog four+ years ago I found that I couldn't even go for walks anymore- my previous dog, Meggie,and I had walked everywhere, and after she was gone everywhere that my gaze fell I expected to find her.

Before I finally gave it up entirely I cut short all of my solitary walks and went home in tears.

Ahhh, Dan. Hugs to you and your family. They aren't pets. They are family. Been without 4 legged family for several years now, for several reasons, but mainly because I can't bear adopting someone else into the family with the full knowledge I will likely have to live to bury them.
