Getting ready for a hot spell, hot enough for late July, and this is only mid-June.

cold! Sydney CBD temperature at 1.30am Monday morning & I'm close to Sydney CBD & the official temperature is 9.2C (= 48F) feels like 2.7 (= 36F)

I don't have a heater (I put on more clothes!) & keep my windows locked open 6" (I like fresh air) & well covered but am still cold.

thermal leggings, & thick track pants, long sleeve thermal t-shirt & long sleeved cotton t-shirt, fleece waistcoat, & this New Zealand merino & possum cardigan (very cosy) with a thick pure wool cardigan my mum knitted in 1988 above that! I also have a jacket draped over my legs.

I'm sure if I had a heater blazing away I could be swanning about in thin summer gear like a friend I remember from years back! Anyway, my electricity bill was much lower then hers then ... & still is below the average 1-person household.

sandra (heading off to bed)

Forecast high of 32°C in Perth County, Ontario, with high probability of loud, violent thunderstorms. What’s life without a little drama?

About 200 Km north of Charmion's rural town, we in Ottawa have a forecast of 31°C. People who put store in "Humidex" calculations say it will feel like 41°C in the early afternoon. Chalk it up to the urban heat island effect.

The heat wave is bringing thundershowers now;
last night we had a dense cloudburst, but it was gone shortly.

I just posted this on Facebook... I take the current close-to-100F weather with these memories in mind.

In July of 1954, my mother & I got on a train in 111F in Wichita, KS to go visit her brother in San Diego. We spent a nice week or so in balmy 78F, then went home and got off to 109F... ooof! I have delivered newspapers in 102+.
The record in Wichita was 113 that year.
