Officials say Gonzales has resigned

By JENNIFER LOVEN and LARA JAKES JORDAN, Associated Press Writers
09:10 EDT, 27 August 2007

CRAWFORD, Texas - Attorney General Alberto Gonzales has resigned, ending a months-long standoff with Republican and Democratic critics who called for his ouster over the Justice Department's botched handling of FBI terror investigations and the firing of U.S. attorneys, officials said Monday...

But as with the resignations of the other BuShite slimeballs, it will make no diference whatsoever. They'll just plug in another slimeball.

"Meet the new boss, same as the old boss. "

Yeah, I heard that.

He'll claim "executive privilege" just as Meiers and Rove have, though.

It is possible the next AG will be slightly less fanatic than the old one. I am glad to see him go. He has really embarassed the office of AG generally.

Hopefully the new AG will study his predecessors' records and not repeat their mistakes. We Americans feel much better when our key political appointees come up with new and original ways to screw us over.

I'm with you, Sorcha. I thought Gonzo was the chimp in the Ronald Reagan movies.

What happens to all the attorneys whose careers were damaged by Gonzales
and the Bush administration?

If Bush weren't a lame duck, he'd probably make reinstating those ousted attorneys a priority. But he doesn't need to do "damage control" since he's outta there in January, 2009 anyway. It doesn't matter to his political future whether he cleans up the mess or not.

Chertoff? Well, at least that leaves room to put Rumsfeld in as Sec. of Homeland Security...

That would reflect the Administration's high standards of competency and qualification for office indeed.

Gonzo is the blue muppet with a cheese curl for a nose. He had the starring role in Muppets in Space.

Bill D you are sooo cynical

for good reason

With a bit of tv channel changing it looked like George W Bush was saying that it is a shame that a good honorable man who merely enabled torture and killing is losing his job because of political witch hunts.

Is he talking about Gonzales or Micheal Vick?

Paul Clement will be ACTING AG; he is currently the Solicitor General (who is supposed to be the President's lawyer).

Rapaire - I concur with your thoughts. The first thing that came to my mind was that the rats are leaving the sinking ship. I'd love to see the gut-less democrats force the "King Rat" out but I hold no hope of that happening. As I've written many times in the past -
so what, it's too late now - the damage has been done. If the American electorate does not take a greater interest in who they elect to office (at all levels) in the future, we will never get out of this quagmire - we'll go from one sinking ship to another. Cheers.

The pundits are saying right now that Gonzalez leaving was a thinly disguised firing....that the White House finally came to 'some' of its senses.

A bunch gone an'...

...two left to go...

But I sure 'nuff won't mess this weizel... I know more about the law than this creepo...

But here is where it is going to get very interesting 'cause Bush is gonna have to bring someone new in and fater the GonzoFieasko this guy is gonna get more scrutiny than possibly any AG appointment in modern history...

Especially now that Roberts and Alito have come out as the partisan Bushites that they are...

Which leads to another intersting thought and that is what a nonpartisan Justice Dept. might be interested in looking into...

"A drunkard's dream if I ever did see one" for the Dems here...

Maybe they'll appoint Bill Cohen to clean up the mess, in my dreams. Cohen is an interesting character, former U.S. Senator, Republican, from Maine; former CIA Director for Republican Big Daddy Bush, Republican; former Secretary of Defense for Bill Clinton, Democrat; current international lobbyist for?

Oh, and he was on record as supporting the impeachment of Nixon.

He's not jumping ship, he's a libility. When the ship of the state sinks it's not good PR for the party running the cruise line to leave so many drowning rats bheind to be counted floating on the surface. Now if only they could all be deep six'd.

"There are no cats in American" at least not in the halls of congress!

From "The Rodent Mariners" by Hamish Maclaren:

We know the ports of all the world
All warehouses, all quays,
All islets, coral-ringed and pearled,
The Blue Hesperides;
And men may search until they die,
And men may blow great fleets sky-high –
But rats alone will hold for aye
The Freedom of the Seas!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble
