Subject: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Oct 03 - 07:01 PM We've been discussing weird movies. So far so good. Now I think it's time to discuss a valuable sub-genre, the Chimp movie, of which there have been a good many. Chimpanzees are very telegenic primates who enjoy being onscreen and act with real gusto. So get to it and nominate your favourite Chimp movie or favourite chimp role. If you want to include Orangutans and gorillas, I guess that would be okay, but let's face it...CHIMPS RULE!!! Oooo! Oooo! Oooo! - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Bill D Date: 07 Oct 03 - 07:09 PM as a kid, I saw "Bedtime for Bonzo", but NOTHING can hold a candle to the short little clip of "El Paso" (Down in the West Texas Town of) done with chimps! The did the whole song, with emotion...they rode off on donkeys, backwards....as the damn song played in the background, etc...I recorded all but the first 30 seconds or so of it, but I didn't LABEL the tape...so, one day, I'm gonna get a surprise! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: TIA Date: 07 Oct 03 - 07:13 PM Oh, excellent recall Bill D. That video was a Steve Martin production, and he was the only human in it. As a kid, I never missed Lance Link. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: vectis Date: 07 Oct 03 - 07:14 PM Clyde in "every which way but loose" with clint Eastwood in a supporting role has it for me every time. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Bill D Date: 07 Oct 03 - 07:15 PM Yes!...it says here that Steve Martin was responsible for the El Paso thing! Figgers! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Oct 03 - 07:46 PM Orang Utangs are not to be confused with chimps! But surely Clint Eastwood was in the supporting role? The same as Reagan was in Bonzo. Over in England the only serious contestants would be the PG-Tips Chimps, who featured in ads for a brand of tea for 40 years. They are long gone, but even so this year viewers voted them all-time favourite advertising characters of all time. |

Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Oct 03 - 01:53 AM Cute chimp movie there, TIA! What I would like to see is a Woody Allen movie where the chimp plays Woody Allen (opposite Diane Keaton), while Woody Allen plays a chimp. That is to say, the chimp would wear Woody's clothes and talk incessantly about all his insecurities and court the lady ineptly, while Woody hooted, shrieked, picked lice and peeled bananas. I think it would be great. Then the chimp and the girl would fly off together in the final reel, a la "Casablanca". The fact is, I'd rather see a chimp get the girl anyway... - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Bill D Date: 08 Oct 03 - 06:13 PM Oh, no...please! Life is complicated enough! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 08 Oct 03 - 06:51 PM So...the chimp is nixing my Woody Allen movie idea? Or what? |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Amos Date: 08 Oct 03 - 08:26 PM I would take it just a tad more personally, were I you, Leedle Hack!! :>) A |

Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: AliUK Date: 08 Oct 03 - 09:36 PM Planet of the Apes et al...how did they get those apes to act so well? |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Bill D Date: 08 Oct 03 - 09:39 PM why, they promised them time in the next Tarzan movie! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Cluin Date: 08 Oct 03 - 10:24 PM President of the United States.... Bonzo looked so lifelike in that role. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Amergin Date: 08 Oct 03 - 10:26 PM my favourite chimp resides in the whitehouse...i see him everytime he comes out for a "speech".... |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: TIA Date: 08 Oct 03 - 11:09 PM This is not a movie. Unfortunately, it's real life. The chimp in chief |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Rustic Rebel Date: 09 Oct 03 - 10:37 PM Project X. I can't say it is a favorite, but it tears me apart every time I see it. When that old chimp gets locked into the test room and he gets nuked, makes me cry every time. Gorillas in the Mist was pretty good too. Help me to remember, was it George of the Jungle where the gorillas raised a young boy and then George took his ape father to the city and the ape was killed? Peace, Rustic |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 10 Oct 03 - 12:16 PM What we really need is a good "Schecky the Monkey King" movie. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Robyn Date: 11 Oct 03 - 03:47 AM I loved Bonza when I was a kid, but also Roddy McDowell in the first Planet of the Apes movies. |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Oct 03 - 01:35 PM Here's an interesting note...in the old Tarzan comics he had a small monkey companion named N'kima. N'kima was there mostly for humorous purposes, but he also proved handy as a lookout to watch for danger (never far away in a Tarzan story). N'kima was quite small and cute, very paranoid and panicky, and added a good deal of interest to the stories. Hollywood then decided to change N'kima into an immature chimpanzee called Cheetah. This was idiotic. Who would name a chimpanzee "Cheetah"? It makes about as much sense as naming him "Tiger" or "Panther", after all. I suspect the decision was based on 2 things: 1. They had a trained chimp handy already at the studio, but not a trained monkey. 2. They figured the American public was too stupid to remember or relate to a name as complicated as N'kima, but would be very comfortable with a word they already knew...Cheetah...and wouldn't care that it was the name of a large cat. Pitiable, that's what it is... - LH |

Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Jeri Date: 11 Oct 03 - 02:21 PM I don't have anything against chimps, but I've never much cared for chimps in movies. Roddy McDowell. And I just NOW figured out his name is a pun!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: GUEST,Strick Date: 11 Oct 03 - 08:38 PM Oh, well, this will all soon be over. A move to ban chimps from movies |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 11 Oct 03 - 09:06 PM Annamill - What is so gross about a chimp shaking his head from side to side? I fail to comprehend what either you or Amos are referring to... No move to ban chimps from movies will ever succeed, but it may help improve their working conditions and that's something to hoot and screech about! Oooook! Oooook! Oooook! They should consider launching a counter campaign to get Jane Goodall banned from movies.... - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: GUEST,Strick Date: 11 Oct 03 - 10:20 PM But she makes such fine guitars! :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Bobert Date: 11 Oct 03 - 10:28 PM Oh, here we go!.... Yeah, like thanks, LH... I've never seen a Chimp movie but I gotta confess that the first night I goyt a pudder to crank up I found myself terrorized by a "pop up chimp" tryin' to sell me somethin' and didn't have a clue what to do. That danged monkey chased me fir about an hour until I drove two miles, picked up my teeneged son from his mom's place, drove him back to my joint and had him wrestle the danged thing to the ground... Whew!... Scariest pudder experience that even Charles Manson could come up with... Still havin' nightmares to this very day... ahhh, night... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Matt_R Date: 12 Oct 03 - 12:52 AM This is SO a topic I would start. Reminds me of that MST3K episode where Brain Guy and Prof. Bobo are arguing over what's the the better ape movie..."Any Which Way But Lose" or "Any Which Way You Can," at which Pearl Forrester tells them they're both idiots, and that the best ape movie is "Dunston Checks In." |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Oct 03 - 12:57 PM Yeah. We're kindred souls, Matt! Bobert, I will have to arrange for Mr Chongo to go down and visit you for a week or so. Please be sure to be well-stocked with bananas and other fruit. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Favourite Chimp movie/role!!! From: Gorgeous Gary Date: 12 Oct 03 - 05:00 PM Matt: "Right turn, Clyde!" 8-) TIA: Another vote for Lancelot Link here... Of course, I must admit my favorite primate doesn't appear in a live action movie, although he's shown up at least once in an animated feature. That would be the Librarian, of Terry Pratchett's Discworld...OOK! ;-) -- Gary |
