Subject: RE: Swinton (UK) Festival 17/18 October 2008 From: Dave the Gnome Date: 17 Oct 08 - 07:09 PM Just back from the ceilidh and it was brilliant - the band were wonderful and the floor was full most of the time. Big thanks to Greg, Kate, Tony and Wendy for the music and the dancers for the spectacle. The karaoke in the other room was pretty good too and didn't leak in - they even finished on a folk song - The Blackpool Belle! Would have been nice to have an extra dozen people but we got quality rather than quantity:-) Can hardly wait for tomorrow now. Cheers Dave |

Subject: RE: Swinton (UK) Festival 17/18 October 2008 From: Joan from Wigan Date: 18 Oct 08 - 03:18 PM Misery - I tried to get there, I really did, but with no trains and only a replacement bus service, it really was a non-starter. The day started off well - I got a lift into Manchester with some friends who were going to the other festival (the one at G-Mex) in the morning, and I spent a pleasant morning wandering around the stalls there and listening to the music on offer - there was a wonderful didge player on stage, plus Tim Wheater. But then trying to get to Swinton was impossible, and I even had severe doubts about being able to get home as time went on (lift wasn't working at Victoria, and I had to come via a roundabout route). Have just landed home and had a cup of tea (much needed) at just turned 8pm. I hope you didn't lose too many other people because of the train situation. My very best wishes to all the friends I'd hoped to see, many of whom I only see once a year at Swinton. It's a long time till next year, but I shall start looking forward to it now - and hope the trains are running then. Joan |

Subject: RE: Swinton (UK) Festival 17/18 October 2008 From: folk1e Date: 19 Oct 08 - 12:22 PM Well ..... another one under the belt Sat was really good (for those who missed it) Started off at noon with the usual mix of booze and music and just carried on from there! There was the (free) singaround in the front room with some well known performers joining in with us of a less professional bent. After about 3 hours the room was too full to squeeze a meodian in, so the back room came into play with a more refined session of song and music ....... did I mention there was beer there too? We had a quick curry break for tea ..... we had to travel 100 yds to find a good curry house! Suitably refreshed we returned to start the evening concert at 8.30. It starts to get a bit hazy after this but I turned into a party pooper and got a Taxi home at about 1am. Others however continued to party at a friends house and were rumored to have quit at about 7am! 12 Noon Sunday was the start of the "survivours Session" ..... a gentle affair with the majority drinking soft drinks for some reason. After about 4 hours of banter and song we decided to call it quits ....until tomorrow night! Well it is a Swinton Club night! My thanks to all who organized, helped, performed, sung along to ....or even bought me a drink! Two tickets for next year please Dave (el Gnome) |
