Subject: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Bobert Date: 23 Apr 13 - 08:24 PM I donno??? This past weekend we were booked in a fairly decent hotel and seems that the last night was prom night and... ...what the hell is wrong with parents these days??? I mean, booking rooms for their kids in a motel for after-prom parties, or what-evers, is beyond my comprehension... So these kids aren't content to just party in their rooms at 2:00 in the friggin' morning... No, they have to make as much noise in the hall of the hotel as they can with their screams and laughing and carryin' on??? What the hell is that about??? B~ |

Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Bill D Date: 23 Apr 13 - 08:55 PM Those parents are young enough to have been part of the generation which included hippies, smoke-ins and the Pill. They KNOW what the kids will be doing. They have a limited idea about how to channel it, however. They should be required to post a VERY large bond to cover possible damage and other guests complaints. |

Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: GUEST,Lavengro Date: 24 Apr 13 - 06:17 AM Been in the same sort of situation more than once B. Personally I wouldn't want to go as far as euthanasia to resolve it. But you know what, the people I get annoyed at are not the kids who haven't had the benefit of being taught boundaries or respect (and are a bit excited), or their ineffectual parents to who it would seem want to be buddies rather than parents? "What, your parents paid for the room? Wow they're soooo cool!" It's the hotels who make group bookings for these kids and put them on mixed floors with other residents. They then compound error by not policing the noise levels. What you are paying for (and what they purport to provide) is a clean room and a nights sleep. If they can't manage that then get your cash back. |

Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Apr 13 - 06:25 AM High schools here in the Sacramento are very good about controlling the conduct of students at graduation night festivities, often hosting chaperoned, all-night parties at locations where nobody is allowed in or out after the party has begun. I don't know about problems after proms, but only one of my four kids went to a high school prom - as an anti-prom statement, he wore a (nice) black shirt and took his girlfriend's two-year-old daughter as his "date" to the prom. They were the hit of the prom, and their prom photo was very cute. I work with high school kids in the church youth group. Most go to prom. They go out to dinner, then to the dance, and then home. A good number of kids, like mine, don't want to deal with the social pressure and pretentiousness of it all. -Joe- |

Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Will Fly Date: 24 Apr 13 - 08:08 AM If by a "Prom", you mean an end-of-term dance for pupils, then I've played one or two of those - for very, very well-off, "posh" teenagers. They usually go OK, but there was one occasion, towards the end of the evening, when 3 or 4 very drunk kids came up on to the stage and made for the instruments, obviously intending to have a go. As if by magic, a couple of us appeared and held them gently by the arms, whispering quietly in their ears that, should one finger of theirs touch any of the instruments - however fleetingly - they would find their trousers round their ankles and their ties used as gags while we escorted them off the stage. That worked... One of the teachers had the grace to apologise for them afterwards. |
Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Allan Conn Date: 24 Apr 13 - 08:09 AM It is a bit easier in more rural areas. My son's prom finished about the back of 11pm (in the Cross Keys Hotel in Kelso) then they all went out of town to a barn on a farm and partied until 6am in the morning. Some went to the prom in limos and there was even one group of kids in a horse drawn carriage. Never had such a thing in my day but I suppose it is with watching all these American teen flicks!! |
Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Rapparee Date: 24 Apr 13 - 09:18 AM I went to the prom in a friend's Simca -- with both ladies wearing "wide" prom skirts. It was, well, cozy -- and the car was waaaaaaaaay underpowered for four people. |
Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: GUEST,gillymor Date: 24 Apr 13 - 09:49 AM My first car was a pokey little Simca. I loved it but fortuntely was able to borrow my Dad's Checker to drive to the prom. Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: JohnInKansas Date: 24 Apr 13 - 12:08 PM A recent news article reports that during the recent recession the average net worth of those in the top 7% of incomes increased by 28%, while that of the remaining 93% decreased by 4%. An article appearing about two days earlier, proclaimed that the "yuppie generation" (the ones we used to just call the "greedy bastards") are doing a much better job of balancing their work lives with their family responsibilities. One might speculate that by "balancing work with family" they mean that the "yuppies" can (and do?) buy the spoiled little monsters any and every new "toy" they want enough to pitch a tantrum over? Subject: RE: BS: 2nd Thoughts on Capital Punishment??? From: Dave the Gnome Date: 25 Apr 13 - 10:49 AM I'd go a step further. Simply the legal system no end. For any crime whatsoever. First offense, be lenient. For very minor offenses a caution. For major stuff a short prison sentence. After all, anyone can make a mistake. Second offense following any other crime, whether related to the first or not. Get Harsh. For a second parking offense, 30 days prison. For a second robbery at least 10 years. Etc. First time could have been a mistake. Second time is just plain stupid. Third offense, whether related to the other two or not. Automatic death penalty. The first was a mistake. the second stupid. The third is just taking the piss. Me, I am being very careful. I have one parking ticket and one speeding fine :-) Cheers DtG |
