Subject: BS: The Sun Inn From: Hand-Pulled Boy Date: 26 Sep 04 - 05:10 AM I have it on good authority that the Sun Inn, Beverley is to be sold off and converted into an old people's nursing home. Considering the history of this fine old hostelry I think it is a crying shame that it cannot continue as a public house which offers excellent live music. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Rt Revd Sir jOhn from Hull Date: 27 Sep 04 - 03:29 AM Seems a real shame to lose another good music venue so soon, [not long ago since The Playhouse closed down, i hear they are going to turn it into a resaraunt, already plenty of restaraunts in beverley]. Such a good pub as well, with plenty of history, oldest pub in Beverley, dating back hundreds of years. Is it worth writing to/emailing the brewery, or have they already made their minds up? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Paco Rabanne Date: 27 Sep 04 - 03:35 AM You're up early jOhn! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Mrs.Duck Date: 27 Sep 04 - 01:22 PM I think its awful that such a great place is to be shut down. There are so many bad pubs around these days serving up fizz beer and plastic music it is a crying shame that somewhere that has the atmosphere and history of the Sun should be going. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: GUEST,BIG ANDY Date: 27 Sep 04 - 05:15 PM Yep the basterd's love to bugger up a good pub when they can. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Beardy Date: 27 Sep 04 - 06:55 PM As far as I know they haven't applied for a 'change of use' yet and should they do so Hull & East Yorks CAMRA will be campaigning against it. I will check with our Beverley activists to see what they know. Stewart |

Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: GUEST,Betsy Date: 14 Oct 04 - 08:32 AM There is only ONE SUN INN - Stockton on Tees - home of Stockton Folk Club for many a year - run by Ron Angel . Hand pulled Bass. Known throught out the folk world , and also known world wide by Construction Folk for its' excellent beer and ambience. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: ThreeSheds Date: 14 Oct 04 - 09:31 PM I dont pretend to be a history authority but the Sun was previously known as the Tap and Spile and for many years before it got the olde worlde treatment it was known as guess what the Sun where it sold the traditional pub fare of no food and a limited selection of good beer.I find it less than amusing to see people nostalgic for a parody of what a pub should be |

Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: GUEST,Sidewinder Date: 17 Oct 04 - 02:03 AM Can anyone help me with a couple of songs I'm trying to track down on CD if possible: the first is "Whiskey Heaven" by Frankie Ford and the other is "In the Beginning" by Frankie Laine any assistance would be much appreciated. On the issue of live music do they still have sessions at Monks Walk and Nellies on the odd Sunday Afternoon? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: ossonflags Date: 17 Oct 04 - 04:07 AM With a name like "Sidewinder" you sound like you could be a Trawlering fellow. Yes, the Sunday sessions are alive and kicking in the Beverley. First sunday in the month I host the "Monks walk session" 2.00pm start, every other sunday it is at "Nellies" hosted by oombanjo 3.30ish start. At both sessions all are welcome. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Belly Date: 18 Oct 04 - 05:04 PM Sidewinder eh!! well i've bin looking for both songs for the last 3 months!! and ain't had any luck yet chance's are they only exist in your imagination. should have called yourself Bee's Wings on account of those fretboard fingers. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Sweetfia Date: 19 Oct 04 - 05:56 AM Sorry Dad, I mean to first time i went in there when i was old enough to be bothered to look around me! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Sun Inn From: Beardy Date: 21 Oct 04 - 05:54 PM There was never a threat to the pub. The only problem was trying to remove the last licensee. Enterprise Inns went to court on Monday and got a court order to remove the sitting tenant. A temporary licensee, Shaun, who had the Holderness Inn for a short time, is currently cleaning up the pub ready for re-opening next week. Hopefully this will be good news. Stewart |
