Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Stilly River Sage Date: 21 Oct 03 - 11:53 AM Rick, I always find great humor in your cooking threads. I hope you're up to a trip to the kitchen--your queries to Mudcatters for recipes, and your stories of how dishes turn out are priceless! SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 21 Oct 03 - 12:35 PM Hi Rick, We're still thinking about you here and sending good wishes over the water. Love to Heather too. Roy & Elaine |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: SINSULL Date: 21 Oct 03 - 05:04 PM You and Heather were missed at the Getaway, Rick. Kathy (Tinker) tried to record as mush as she could for you. Hope "Cinderella" survives for you. An odd way to meet Alaska Mike and Col K for the first time. "awwright" SINS |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: GUEST Date: 21 Oct 03 - 05:29 PM Rick, Just being a guest for a while myself from this library computer. I do hope that things get smoother for you and Heather. Just know we're with you with whatever vibes we can send. The best to you both, Art Thieme and Carol |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Susan A-R Date: 22 Oct 03 - 12:22 AM Rick, I haven't been on line much lately, and so found out the state of affairs this weekend at the Getaway. You were sorely missed and much thought about. I'll keep you and Heather in my thoughts. Much love Susan |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Seamus Kennedy Date: 22 Oct 03 - 01:24 AM Hang in there, sir. Keep rehydrating. I'll be in Ireland with a tour group next week, and I'll get them all to raise a pint in your honour. We'll sorta rehydrate ourselves as an example for you!! All my best. Seamus |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: GUEST,Jack the Sailor Date: 22 Oct 03 - 08:06 AM That rehydrating seems like a great idea! Here are some pictures of Carol's and my travels over the last little while. See if you can guess what Seamus will be drinking in Ireland. (I'm a Murphy's man myself!) |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: lamarca Date: 22 Oct 03 - 05:02 PM Hey, Rick and Heather - I spent the brief time I was at the Getaway explaining to everyone that I'm a "lapsed 'Catter" (as well as a lapsed Catholic), but I thought I'd better get my tail back on here and send best wishes to you both! Boy, did you miss some excitement, with the British Invasion and Jeri's Stump Speech and Max's Lily and the Madame Defarge Synchronized Knitting Society and other things Too Fierce to Mention. George led the "Occupational Hazards" song swap, and wished you were there to sing Pitman's Blues... Hang in there with the Celebrex, and keep swilling those chocolate malts - as the song says, There's only two things I like better than milkshakes and malts And one's dancin' like the dickens to the West Texas Waltz... lol, Mary Drink coffee - do stupid things faster and with more energy! |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Jeri Date: 22 Oct 03 - 07:42 PM ...and as I walked up the hill to the gym at the Getaway, I heard the guitar bit of Pitman Blues and tried to figure out 1) what exactly it was because I had a definite and strong reaction, and 2) where the heck it was coming from. George, on the bench, with a guitar. Rick wasn't there, but it sure sounded like the song made it! |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Little Hawk Date: 23 Oct 03 - 12:59 PM Got hold of a Martin you'd love to play, Rick. Hope you're doing okay. - LH |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Dani Date: 23 Oct 03 - 01:08 PM Rick, I thought of you and Heather every time I walked past the dumpster. I remembered a bit of a jam there last year, on which I eavesdropped and thoroughly enjoyed. Dani |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Vixen Date: 24 Oct 03 - 08:34 AM Dear Rick-- Amazin' what a few bottles (bags) of Ringer's Solution will do to a body...water, salt and sugar can be positively marvelous sometimes! Anything I can say is inconsequential, but I'll say it anyway: You are loved; you are a miracle. You and Heather are in our thoughts and prayers-- V (and Tim too!) |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Fortunato Date: 24 Oct 03 - 10:38 AM Rick, Susette and I dashed in for a few hours to the Getaway on Saturday. Many folks asked about you, asked if I was in contact with you. I thought several times of the jamming you and I did together, and the swapping of the Gallagher for your Martin for a few songs. Rare fine moments of musical connection I won't forget. I had a nice chat with a remarkably slim Mike (Big Mick) and I asked him to send you my best. I'm sorry as hell you've ailing. Here's hoping for some good days fo you soon. Chance |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Carly Date: 24 Oct 03 - 12:41 PM Rick and Heather, I hope that you appreciate the power of your music and friendship that invests a dumpster site with such nostalgia! I, too, remembered that little session - I had hope of repaying you for the song, Rick, by singing one for you this year, but Someone had other plans. I add my voice to the chorus - you are loved, you are treasured, we keep you in our hearts. Carly |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Big Mick Date: 25 Oct 03 - 09:42 AM Got home from Toronto yesterday morning about 1 a.m. I know you all would like an update on how Rick and Heather are doing so here we go. I asked Rick before posting anything and he said it is fine to let his friends know. First, he is ever so greatful for everyones friendship and thoughts. I walked up to the door, knocked, and got met with that smile. Has there ever been a smile anywhere as marvelous as our Heather's? Rick looks good. In fact, I expected worse than I found. He is thin, but looks good. He gets tired easily, but in spite of that we managed to have dinner together at a great little Chinese joint, and the next day we ate lunch at Murphy's Law Irish Pub. Great conversation with good friends is hard to beat. In terms of prognosis, Rick tells me that it is all up in the air. Since kidney cancer is one of the few that responds to immune therapy sometimes, that is how they are going at it. In terms of mental state, this man shows once again why he is a wonder. Rick understands exactly where he is at, and as he said in his letter to us at the Getaway, "No regrets". He is in the fight until its resolution. I am proud of him. Since I didn't ask Heather's permission to post on how she is doing, let me just say that she is one of the strongest, most grace filled women I have ever known. Any of you that know my circle of women friends will know that that is quite a statement. She loves this man, and is devoted to helping him wage the battle. Now if I could only find a way to get over there every week for lessons......... DVD player report will be in the Getaway memories thread. All the best, Mick |

Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: SINSULL Date: 27 Oct 03 - 11:39 AM I did miss the Beef Brothers at the Getaway. Jed was missing. Rick and Mick no longer look like folkies. Even MMario is a shadow of his former self. Alaska Mike helped fill the void. You would like him and Tawmmie, Rick. Big shy guy who needs to be pulled out of his shell. A few Shellbackers filled in too. But we missed you and Heather. Look at the videos. Mary |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Fortunato Date: 27 Oct 03 - 03:02 PM Thanks, Mick. I wish I could have been with you. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Jeri Date: 27 Oct 03 - 04:00 PM I always thought it was Rick AND the Beef Bros. In any case, Jed needs to send a shirtless shot in to Mudcat so we can call 'em 'the BeefCAKE Brothers'. Maybe you both could pose with those bow ties like the Chippendales use. Is it getting warm in here, or is it just me? |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Tinker Date: 27 Oct 03 - 09:55 PM Okay Jeri, now for a few songs... Rick's going to require some guitar work and the other booys are moving to beefcake... Maybe this one as a start??? You've got to Give me some of it (Track 19) |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Steve Latimer Date: 27 Oct 03 - 10:14 PM Rick, It was nice to hear you back on the radio tonight. You sounded great. |
Subject: RE: BS: Rick's health Update From: Jeri Date: 28 Oct 03 - 08:09 AM Yeah, Steve. Rick sounded great, Harvey Andrews sounded great, and Heather sounded like like the subject of a blues song. (Maybe/not one of Tinker's, although it sounds like a great CD! Broonzy on guitar, huh?) "Don't push my buttons, baby, leave them things alone; Don't push my buttons baby, or we'll have to go on home; Oh, I won't holler, I won't shout, But when you push buttons, my 'phones go out; Don't push them buttons baby, or we'll have to go on home. |
