Subject: Tune Add: LEMON TREE From: John in Brisbane Date: 01 Dec 98 - 08:55 PM OK, so there may be mixed opinion as to whether this constitutes a classic folk song, but I'd swear it has crossed the lips of a huge number of budding singer/guitarists in the last thirty odd years - and the tune is missing from the DT. Anyone like to own up to having sung it?
Regards

Subject: RE: Tune Add: Lemon Tree (Will Holt) From: keberoxu Date: 19 Dec 24 - 01:49 PM Well, no, in answer to the opening post, I have not sung the song. But I grew up with the Peter Paul & Mary recording, on their very first album together. I don't know if I'm making this up, but it seems to me that I have heard a cover version with Latin rhythms, something like Trini Lopez of happy memory. |
Subject: RE: Tune Add: Lemon Tree (Will Holt) From: GerryM Date: 19 Dec 24 - 06:48 PM Someone sang it at the Mudcat Worldwide Zoom singaround of 27/28 March 2023. It was probably me, but I'm away from my notebooks, so I can't check. |
Subject: RE: Tune Add: Lemon Tree (Will Holt) From: Tattie Bogle Date: 25 Dec 24 - 07:21 PM Copied from Wikipedia: “Lemon Tree" is a folk song written by Will Holt in the late 1950s. Inspired by a Brazilian song, Meu limão meu limoeiro, originally written in 1930. Peter Paul and Mary recorded it in 1962, but Trini Lopez had a much bigger chart success with it in 1965, and yes, I agree with Keberoxu, Trini’s version did have a Latin rhythm to it. |
