I saw my first snowdrops of this year today. Is it me, or are they early?

Wiarton Willie (my hero) is always right even when he's wrong. At the time of prediction he is correct, however sometimes something happens after to screw things up. (Don't expect this to make sense.) You see, as a native of Wiarton, my hero has to be infallible.

Peace, Mooh.

They usually come early spring. I can't remember seeing any here in Yorkshire yet but I'm not the most observant person around. I wonder when you'll see crocuses up there.

After temperatures way above average (70F, fer-pete-sake, in New Hampshuh in December!), we've finally been experiencing more seasonal temps -- between zero F. and the twenties.

So...no snowdrops yet.

But as soon as the temperatures moderate again, we'll probably see them. In some microclimates around here the daffs were sticking their heads up a few weeks ago.

And we have no snow to speak of, just remnants of touches of white.

I'm just wondering when the frogspawn will arrive on our pond. If it comes too early a lot of it gets killed if there's a bad frost.

I"ve never seen so many, especially in winter !!.It"ll be macaws & African greys next, just you wait & see !!

Last weekend I was doing some tidying in the garden - found a rose in bud, just ready to bloom.

The snowdrops were sprouting, but no sign of any buds on them.

If the weather was fair and bright yesterday (Candlemas), wherever you live, watch out - winter's not over yet:

"If Candlemas day be fair and bright,
Winter will take another flight."

It was warm earlier in the year, then grew cold...we've had cold nights close to zero or below for several weeks and daytime temps under thirty which is good for the orchards as we don't want them to come out early then freeze, BUT I thought I heard a robin a couple of weeks ago. I never did spot it. Today while cleaning up the backyard I finally saw it; my first robin of the Spring and it seems a bit early!

This Morning (for the first time since October) it was more or less light when I awoke.
So far it has been a beautiful sunny day with hardly a cloud in the sky.
It is beginning to feel that slowly, but naturally & appropriately Winter is preparing to give way to Spring.
Of course if there is a blizzard tonight, I will feel like a complete Pranny for writing this.

About 4" of light stuff dropped out of the sky last night but the wind didn't pick up until 1am or so, about the time I was driving home from the gig. Wasn't too bad though. Shovelled it this morning.

What I miss most about spring is playing music outside.

Peace, Mooh.

mooh, remember the year that Willie was wrong, and winter just wouldn't let go? How many death threats did he get? Better yet, how many strangers did you see cruising around with a shotgun in the back window of their pick up trucks?

I had a pleasant stroll around some of the squares in central London today - daffodils and polyanthus are burgeoning, as are the primroses and crocus in Red Lion Square. A definate mildness in the air, tempered only by the flight of pigeons as they homed in on me, thinking I had crumbs for them.

I had no crumbs. I hate pigeons (cue Tom Lehrer song...).

We have daffodils here in New Hampshire - at the supermarket - imported from Ireland. When we are fortunate, Spring is a long weekend sometime in May -- Tom

Winter just hit us...after some 70 degree F. weather in December (whoda thunk it?!?) February decideded to get cold and then we had last Wednesday's storm. It only amounted to 6 or 8 inches of snow here (alternated with sleet and freezing rain) but the aggro faction was pretty high.

I actually got a snow day -- the company that just bought the publication I work for understands that it's better to stay home when the weather sucks so you don't kill yourself on the road for no reason. First time ever that an employer has understood that I get a lot more accomplished alive than dead and when the driving sucks it's more productive to stay put.

But a lot of my advertisers got A LOT more snow -- like four feet worth. They lost two days -- the second to trying to shovel out. An advertiser up in Berlin, NH said they don't know where to put all the snow -- and threatened to box it up and ship it to Portsmouth. (Similar to my theory of table cleaning.)

But finally the ski areas got snow -- and since people look out into their yards at snow, it's occurred to them to go skiing, snow boarding, ice climbing, snowmobiling, etcet etcet and support the economies (and restaurants, outlet malls) of northern New Hampshire and Maine. About time!

I'm very much looking forward to Spring (I usually miss it -- in the bathroom or something), but I hope the North Country can keep going well into the month or two ahead.

Linn

At dusk I could actually see the snow falling on the northshore mountains. They must have been really big, slow, wet flakes to be able to see them from such a distance. The air is crytal clear and the sky is indigo blue through the dark clouds. Its chilly on the back porch but there is no wind, no rain and hopefully, no snow when I wake up.

Out front, the ornamental plums and the forsythia are just about ready to burst into bloom. Primroses are starting to open. Shirley poppies have germinated and this afternoon I transplanted creeping thyme all along the path to the front door.

Up in the Highlands on Southern Vancouver Island. The frogs started singing tonight. The bluebells and daffodils are pushing their way through. Saw some snowdrops in bloom on lower ground and the solar, rechargeable lights are twinkling for a few hours each night.
All in all; right on schedule for my neck of the woods.
Winter came a little early and was particularly rough though.
I'll be happy when I see the first fawn of the year.

All over Florida and Arizona, the harbingers of Spring have arrived. Pitchers and catchers have arrived with position players right behind them. I can already smell the greasy hot water dogs and hear the beautiful crack of the bat that says winter will be over soon.

Play ball.
