From: GutBucketeer

Just re-posting the time and date for the next Hearme Sing.

Sunday Feb. 27 at 7:30 pm EST in the newest Mudcat Hearme room (see Jon's site)

Newest Mudcat Hearme
Once you link to this site click on the Join Chat box.

See the discussion in the "Regular Hearme time, When ?" thread.

Topic: Weather Songs! good, bad, unusual, turbulent, etc. Does anyone have an El Nino song? I hear its wrecking havoc in Texas again this year. For anyone that remembers Woodstock (the first one) please no rain chants.
Once around the virtual circle and then sing anything you want.

Should be easire to connect than last week.

Think about topics and times for the following week. Would Alison, or any of the others away from the U.S. East Coast like to set a time?

I'd also like to make an additional request.

At any Hearme Sing the standing topic is:

Songs From the Mudcat Songbook!

We can see the songs in print, but haven't HEARD them!!! How can the folk process work without a performance of these wonderful efforts.

So, if you have made a contribution to the Mudcat Songbook: Please sing/play it for us!!!!

JAB

...guess what JAB? Marty Schuman's daughter of the "Folklorries" wrote a song called "El Nino!" I'll see if I can get the song from her before Sunday...ah heck, she probably won't let me sing it...

The first thread about Hearme goes into what you need pretty extensively. It's here:

Hearme Thread

Basically, you must have a Windows PC. It must have Microsoft Internet Exporer Version 3.02 or greater installed on it (you don't have to use IE, i use Netscape for Example, but HearMe uses some of its components)

You need a Microphone and sound card.

Hope to see you there.

Highly recommend this experience to any who have never been in this. Like huddling around a radio in the long ago, willing to stand any tech problems to be with each other, so nice.

Thanks to all of you for including me, mic-less and all. Technology is up to Hardiman, I'll hook up when I can!

Well, RATZ. I got in for a few minutes, then my server kept crashing. I think it's more the ISP than anything having to do with my computer.

I did experience enough of it to know what a kick it will be. I have the microphone and am good to go, if I can get online and stay that way.

Sorry I missed most of the party...

Wow, it was wonderful. Got to hear Allan C and Don Meixner, both for the first time. First rate, all of you! Thanks. WW, sorry we didn't get to hear you. Oh, and several were new listeners without mics available this time, including Micca, Sabra, Sorcha, Clifton53(for just a few minutes), and others. You all get some mics going, okay. We want to HearYou, too! Oh, and momnpop's son Ryan sang and Sorcha's daughter added some text comments, too.

I sang:

Colorado Trail
No More Songs by Phil Ochs, from a Holly Near tape "Sky Dances"
The Wastral (sic) and the Vagrant - poem by my grandfather, Frank Hudson, my tune

and, I read:

To Camp Out Right by my grandfather
Retirement by Jean Mackie, from her book "A Little Piece of Earth"; learned from a Jean Redpath CD, "A Woman of Her Time"

Thanks for the fun and memories, everyone!

kat

Jon, "Lord Itchy?" LOL! (Inchiquin) I sang a bunch o' songs - actually croaked the majority of them.

I believe momnopp's son's name is Dylan. What a fine singer he is - I hope to hear more from him.

I'm enjoying these sings more each time!!!

If(when) I acquire a working mic there is still a drawback to full participation, 130 am is not a good time to be singing, with Aud(my SO) asleep. i colud find myself getting the Cleigh treatment (having a dynamite enema) or definitly getting blown up in some forrm. I will think about this and see if I can think of a solution..

Micca, we have asked before about setting up different times to accomodate UK and/or Australia time. Let us know of a good time for you and let's see what we can do.

Momnpop, sorry I got Dylan's name wrong when writing here. Thanks, Jeri, sorry, too that I missed your fiddling.

Kat, fear not. Jeri, thanks for setting her straight ;-) yes, it's Dylan. He's 10 and has quite the personality! He joined the chorus this year and has had a blast with it. I'm so pleased that he's gravitated towards singing; one of my greatest pleasures in life.

I really enjoy these sings and I love to tell people what I do on a Sunday evening on the computer. . .

You all are a terrific bunch, thanks for being just how you are.

Love, JudyO

Last night was my first time on the Hearme thing. As it was I tuned in late. So I wasn't aware that kat had already done "Colorado Trail", but it was one of the four I did. Here's the list:

Navajo Trail - by Marjorie Elliot. I grew up singing this together with a 45RPM record I had of Roy Rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers. It is a really nice song!

Even Such Is Time - by Sir Walter Raleigh

Colorado Trail - Collected by Carl Sandburg with an additional verse added by Lee Hays

The Oregon Trail - by K.W. Todd (I would be glad to share info on where to get a recording of this song as performed by Tania Opland. Just send me a note.)

This was a really fun thing to do on a Sunday night. Not quite like being there in person; but it was great to hear such a fine collection of such talented people. Even the people who didn't have microphones seemed to enjoy listening. So if you haven't tuned in before, I urge you to give the next one a try.

I had a ball! I hope EVERYBODY enjoyed it as much as I did.

I sang "It Blowed Away" with banjo
"The Frozen Logger" with banjo
"The Sweet Little Window" with guitar
"Beans, Bacon & Gravy" with banjo
"No More Beer" with banjo
"The Pig" a cappella

Okay, so what do we do next week?

Kat, how about "How Does Your Garden Grow?" (Just so we can work in herbs and veggies, too.) Funny thing, the weather's been getting warmer here, and the snow is disappearing - everybody I know who grows things has been talking about gardening.

I'm willing to start earlier on Sun. If we started at 3PM Mudcat time, it would be 8PM in the UK. Of course, that would be some ridiculous hour in OZ...

I am wondering if a pre recorded tape would be permitted? then there need be no extraneous noise. I know it isn't strictly Kosher and against the spirit of the live session but if my love is weilding a leg of lamb( see Song Challendge 11) I will not sing......***BG****

I could certainly start earlier, too. I think Oz would be about 6am, the next day, though, so....I ahd suggested maybe alternating this each week, so that everyone gets a chance at a decent hour: US-UK-US-OZ???

Micca, that may be a good solution, I don't think it would be a problem with anyone, at least not me. Although, I think we should be able to accomodate your times in the UK and those is OZ, too.

Jeri, I love it, that would be a great topic. It has been like that here, too. My irises tried to come two weeks ago and they are never up until April or May here, usually!!! Weird and kinda scary!!

so...are the archives up yet?..Oh..right...*sigh*...well, mebbe next time..but I have a local sing and 3 days of a Woodworking show to do this weekend, too....(P.S...'themes' are neat...they help you focus your mind, and perhaps HearMe sings could be worked out so that different time zones could have 'comfortable' times, and join the others when staying up late is not such a hassle!)

Bill:

That's a great Idea (hand hits head)!!!! People can start the sing at anytime on Sunday!!! It's not like we would be showing up while the host is still in the shower, the newspapers are on the couch, and the dishes are in the sink. The virtual song room is always spotless and ready for company!

So If anyone wants to get going before 7:30 EST more power too them. Just announce when you will be starting in the list!
