The rhubarb/cream cheese oatmeal square I made last Saturday not only don't count, but they're almost gone. And I refuse to bake my own cake anyway. Thanks for the BD greetings! The day has been starting out lovely and, since I took a half day off from work, I don't have to go to work until 4 pm. Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess' Birthday, Very Happy! From: Bat Goddess Date: 09 Jun 11 - 09:09 PM Thanks, everybody! I had a delightful day. First off, Rufus (the cat) actually let me sleep until 7 a.m. (As near as I can figure out, he's "set" for 5:45...even on my day off, such as yesterday.) Sabine (the other cat) curled up in my lap and purred and let me read without stomping around stiff legged and not settling. Then Tom made me a wonderful breakfast sandwich with "too much" cheese (there's no such thing as too much cheese) and SAUSAGE!!!! (usually it's bacon, on breakfast sandwich mornings, which isn't every morning). We went to Newick's for my birthday ten bucks off...and I had beautifully fried large shrimp. Alas, didn't find any squid, rubber or otherwise, in the gift shop. Didn't feel rushed driving Tom home afterwards because I didn't have to head back to Portsmouth for work until almost 3:30. It was totally dead at work. And then there was a massive thunderstorm that hit us around 5 after crossing the state. My boss had left early and my co-worker and I talked until she left at 6. Then a young Sears associate (on straight commission, so she didn't worry about being out of her department for awhile; there were no customers there) and I talked until I closed at 8. Sure made the time go faster (and I'd already alphabetized the prescriptions for the week and tagged the one pair of readers that came in). Came home and we had power! (All of Lee Circle appeared dark and I know there were a lot of outages.) So...I ate the leftover shrimp from lunch, landed here at Mudcat, and intend to have a cold gin and gin before retiring. Kat, I had the whole day off last year. Maybe I'll have it off again year after next. Today's half day was fine. My sister's promised packages (she's been sending them for over a year now; they grew from one to four, but they finally got shipped Monday or Tuesday) didn't arrive today, but that's okay. They'll probably be here tomorrow. They also include Tom's B.D. present from last September. And probably Christmas presents. And other stuff. I have to remind her what was in them when I call her on Saturday. G'night, all! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess' Birthday, Very Happy! From: Bat Goddess Date: 09 Jun 12 - 07:26 PM Thanks, everyone! And, thanks, too, for all the birthday wishes on that other site as well. Another year older... How did I get so old? I'm blaming my mother. (And she's accepted the responsibility.) But what I REALLY want to know is how did my knees get so much older than me?!? Tom and I ate enough at my birthday lunch (ten bucks off for my B.D.) that supper is just going to be cake...and ice cream. (And maybe whipped cream and, if I find a jar while rummaging in the fridge, a maraschino cherry...I DESERVE a maraschino cherry!) Thanks again for all the warm birthday wishes! Wish we could throw a huge party and have all of you here in person! (And I wish I had the energy to do that in reality rather than fantasy!) Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Bat Goddess' Birthday, Very Happy! From: Bat Goddess Date: 10 Jun 12 - 07:12 AM Jeri, can no longer sit by the window as the glare is painful for Tom, but we sat one row in across the aisle and the view was still lovely. Tom had native shrimp and I started with a small lobster stew (Newick's lobster stew is as good as Tom's -- that's high praise -- and full of lobster meat) because it's my birthday. Couldn't decide between fried squid and native shrimp, so got a combo plate and had both. And a baked potato because, quite honestly, their french fries are terminally mediocre. Washed it down (took plenty home) with Guinness because stout is the most complementary drink for seafood that we've discovered. Bill, didn't even look for the jar of cherries. We were both still stuffed from lunch that we didn't even sample the tiramisu cake. Tonight, perhaps... I celebrate on high for at least a month, then kick it down a notch. So nobody is EVER late! Thanks again for all the good wishes! Linn |

Learned when I was a lad... my uncles taught me how to get the best crabs and clams and mussels and such down at "the shore". Nowadays, I have to buy the ingredients... sigh. So glad to hear youse had a good meal and a good time! Youse deserve it! |
