Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: GUEST,Emmie Date: 14 Jun 21 - 11:40 AM Hi, when is the next singaround please? |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: Noreen Date: 19 Jul 21 - 12:03 PM Hello Emmie, it is held every Monday at the times above depending where you are in the world- or early Tuesday morning for our members in Australia and New Zealand. You can be added to the mailing list and then you'll have the notification each week. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: Noreen Date: 19 Jul 21 - 12:07 PM Time again to go Mudcatting! Join singers from all over the US, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, and...where else? Hear singing in English (both British and American), Irish, Scots Gaelic, Occitan, Hebrew, French, German, Breton, and… what else? We start sing at NOON pacific daylight time, 3 PM in New York, and 8 PM in London. We sing for around five hours, depending on how many attend, and it's always wonderful. Doors open half an hour early for schmoozing and numbering the singing order. Be sure to update to the latest version of Zoom. Through the miracle of technology, this session will be hosted by Noreen Keene (in England with Irish connections) with backup hosting from Casey Casebeer in California. And let’s have a round of applause for the wild and wooly Mudcat session assistant volunteers, without whom all would be anarchy and pandemonium. (Anarchy and pandemonium have their place, granted, but not at an event that gets through 30 to 60 singers every session!) Joe is on vacation, and about time. He’ll be back next week. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom TODAY!! From: Joe Offer Date: 04 Oct 21 - 11:36 AM Hi, Everybody - We usually sing Mondays on Zoom - Noon Los Angeles time, 3 PM New York, and 8 PM in London. We sing for about 4 hours, and get about 40 singers from all over the world. We won't be meeting next week because we'll all be at the FSGW Getaway (Oct 8-11, 2021), so come sing with us today and every Monday except next week (come to the Getaway next week). |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Oct 21 - 08:24 PM I I sent out Monday's invitation and Zoom link today. If you'd like to join us and didn't get an email, email me at joe@mudcat.org During the week, I see posts from people asking about a song. Think about coming to the Singaround and singing what you know of the song for us. If you're short on time and can't wait two hours to sing, let me know in the Zoom chat and I'll squeeze you in early. The idea of the Worldwide Singaround is for Mudcatters to meet each other and share songs. I try to be as flexible as possible to accommodate everyone. If you have any comments, feel free to speak up. Joe |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom TODAY!! From: Taconicus Date: 22 Nov 21 - 07:20 PM Do you ever post videos of the performances, Joe? I know you record them. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom TODAY!! From: Joe Offer Date: 22 Nov 21 - 08:20 PM Hi, Taconicus - we allow singers to record their own performances, but we agreed by consensus not to record the entire session. Sure wish I had a recording of George singing "The Queen and the Soldier" (Suzanne Vega). |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom TODAY!! From: SPB-Cooperator Date: 20 Dec 21 - 12:51 PM We hope to be able to pop in for the happy cocktail half-hour before the session tonight. |

Subject: RE: Worldwide Singaround thread overflow From: Mrrzy Date: 05 Jul 22 - 04:08 PM I called on on the 4th of July from the emergency room, which is why I couldn't always listen nor could I sing. My back didn't just go out, it took my left leg with it. Anyway, if I *coulda* sung, here's what I woulda sung. One of my favorite I Love America songs, set to a haunting melody, and sweetened by the immigrant's point of view. Also, the one line that just spoke to me, dans ma douleur. Not sure whose version this is, from my folks' records: When I first came to this land, I was not a wealthy man So I got myself a shack, and I did what I could. And I called my shack “Break My Back.” But the land was sweet and good and I did what I could. [Each verse repeats this form, with a different acquisition and nickname] ...cow...No Milk Now ...wife... Run For Your Life ...son ...My Work's Done But the land was sweet and good, and I did what I could. |
Subject: RE: Worldwide Singaround thread overflow From: MoorleyMan Date: 05 Jul 22 - 06:02 PM You're in good company, Mrrzy! Fred Maslen sang this very song near the start of the singaround! Hope you have a swift recovery, all best wishes. |
Subject: RE: Worldwide Singaround thread overflow From: Joe Offer Date: 05 Jul 22 - 11:22 PM Mrrzy, we miss you, and we'd sure like to have you back. |
Subject: RE: Worldwide Singaround thread overflow From: Mrrzy Date: 13 Jul 22 - 10:23 PM I forgot to say each verse repeats the previous idea, thus by the end ... I called my shack, Break my back And I called my cow, No milk now And I called my wife, Run for your life And I called my son, My work's done But the land was sweet and good... And thanks for the well-wishes. |

Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: GUEST,David Polacheck Date: 25 Sep 23 - 10:54 AM Do I have a Mudcat name? If so, what is it? If not, how do I get one? I swear I’m legit; my Dad, Charles Polacheck, was an Almanac Singer in his youth. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Sep 23 - 11:19 AM You choose a name for yourself and use it consistently. Write to Joe Offer joe@mudcat.org to get set up with an account. |
Subject: RE: Mudcat Worldwide Singaround - On Zoom Mondays! From: Felipa Date: 25 Sep 23 - 11:36 AM David Polacheck, I don't think you need to email Joe Offer to register for membership on Mudcat; I think you can still do that directly from the Mudcat website by clicking on "membership" and submitting your email addy and a user name. And it is a good idea to register with this site. But you also don't need to be a Mudcat member to participate in Monday zoom singarounds. To be on the email list to receive the codes weekly, you DO have to email Joe Offer. But Joe is travelling at the moment and Gerry Myerson sent out the zoom code this week. You could get this week's code from someone you know who is a regular participant.
