Subject: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 06:55 PM Well, we've done a little redecorating in the old Tavern for the Summer. We've got pennants and trophies on the walls, a big screen tv in the billiard room, and we even have some sports memoribilia displayed. Like this baseball, for example. This is the one Rick Fielding tried to sneak over the plate past the French Kid who slammed it into the seats, ending Fielding's major league hopes. Aw, heck, wipe the tears away...Baseball's loss is Folk Music's gain. We also welcome fans of Football, Basketball, Hockey, Soccer, Rugby, Cricket, Hurling, what have you. As you can plainly see, I'm wearing my Colorado Avalanche Stanley Cup 2001 Cap, a Denver Broncos jersey, a pair of Colorado Rockies Sweat Pants, and a pair of Louisville Cardinals socks. We've got hot chicken wings on the menu and $3.00 pichers of beer. You're welcome to watch the game in the pool room, but the main room is for Music as always. Anybody with a song, especially a sports or team song, step up to the microphone. If you feel like a little physical action, step out in back where Bert and Catspaw have got the volleyball net set up, clothing optional. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Matt_R Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:03 PM Well I've got my Phillies hat and my Sixers jacket on, ready to urge my teams on to glory! Anyone up for "Mis-shapes"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:16 PM I'm with you on the Sixers, Matt. I've been a Dikembe Mutumbo fan since he was the Franchise here in Denver. Look what's happened to the Nuggets since he left. Have a beer on Bert. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: JenEllen Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:21 PM Are girls allowed in this clubhouse? Got my Giants jersey on, set me up with a tall one (drink that is...there's always time for shirts'n'skins later) ~J |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:39 PM Do we ALLOW girls!? We encourage, invite, and attempt to entice 'em! Even wearing Giants jerseys. I'm still bitter about the Super Bowl where Phil Simms and crew whipped up on the Broncos. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: JenEllen Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:47 PM Giant's baseball, luv. The most un-threatening Giants of all...LOL #22, from the days when Will graced first base. Even had Willie Mays sign the tag for me. Is the air-hockey table fixed yet? ~J

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Sorcha Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:52 PM yuck, this place is a Sports Bar.........see ya next time around. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:55 PM Oh, heck, that's a different story, Jen. The Say Hey Kid is one of the best to ever play. Question now is...can Bonds break McGwire's home run record? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Noreen Date: 11 Jun 01 - 07:58 PM Oooooh, can I put up my prized Kevin Keegan poster above the bar please? And the one of the 1970's Liverpool squad, though it is rather dog-eared.... JenEllen, you don't have to wear that nose clip all the time, do you? Thought it was only when you wuz swimmin'... must make drinking a bit awkward? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:01 PM Sure, Noreen. Just one thing...who is Kevin Keegan? And was that 70s Liverpool squad a soccer team or a Rugby team? Sincerely, Ignorant Yank |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Caitrin Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:21 PM *grins* Right here, wearing my New Jersey Devils jersey. And trying not to make faces at Leej's Avalanche gear. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:26 PM Ah, but it was a great series, Cait! Let me buy you a beer. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Noreen Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:38 PM Since you asked... Kevin Keegan was the star striker in the 70's Liverpool F.C. (soccer) squad who won everything in sight. Also famous for their curly perms... Kevin Keegan went on to manage the England football team, but was too nice to be successful... *BG* ...but he is still my hero. *grin* |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: JenEllen Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:43 PM Hey now! They told me that nose clip was high-fashion for places like this....besides, once Spaw gets here, you'll ALL be wanting one. *bg* Bonds is going to have to work hard, Leej. I saw McGuire a coupla times when he was still a 'bash brother' in Oakland, and in the '89 series. He's had that reach for a long time. And Barry wears too much jewelry to be able to run, so hitting is his only option. Either that or MrT in the A-Team reunion special...but can he act?? ~J

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Matt_R Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:44 PM New Jersey? NEW JERSEY? I HATE NEW JERSEY! They are nothing but a bunch or cruel sadists who just **HAPPEN** to know how to skate, who have no qualms about seriously injuring other players, just to get goals. Then they get touched on the arm and start rolling on the ground writhing in pain like their leg has been pulled off. I never saw a bigger bunch of rotten, cheating, gratuitously violent, unsportsmanlike cretins in all my life! Rant OFF! FAKE!! DEATH TO SCOTT STEVENS, aka SATAN

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Caitrin Date: 11 Jun 01 - 08:58 PM Okay, Matt, calm yourself. They happen to be damn fine hockey players, and I think your comments could be applied to an awful lot of people in the sports world, no more to Jersey than anyone else. Hockey is a violent sport. That's the way it is. Get over it. And you're right, Leej, it was a good bunch of games. *grins* I'll gladly take you up on that beer. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: JenEllen Date: 11 Jun 01 - 11:11 PM Sheesh kat, love to oblige m'am, but they don't let me have mallets anymore. And after that lawn-dart incident (repeat after me...'alleged'..) I'm lucky to be let outside at all. How's about mint juleps and poker? |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 Jun 01 - 02:21 AM I retired from cheerleading, ever since I got transferred to the Baruchia MunchenGladbach (soccer) side and had the job of shouting 'Give us a B......' Closest I get to sports these days is fishing tennis balls out of my new pond, and practising my solo synchronised swimming in the bath. Can I still get an English beer, rather than some of that stuff that tastes like it was strained through a running shoe? LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Morticia Date: 12 Jun 01 - 10:07 AM Ermmmm.....I've never seen THAT done in Twister before! Leej, shouldn't someone go in there with the vaseline or the fire brigade or something? I only know of one good reason for getting hot and sweaty, and it has little to do with sports socks... but I'll have a drink while I'm waiting *BG*. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: SINSULL Date: 12 Jun 01 - 10:53 AM Oh Crap. Look what they have done to this place. I liked it better when that strange little man used to hide under the table and write poetry. Only one solution...Change the channel! There now! Bubba and Devon are winning. "Get the TABLE!" First one to try to change back to baseball gets the People's Elbow! And I mean it. If you guys are patient, Chyna will be out late in a thong. |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Noreen Date: 12 Jun 01 - 12:35 PM Just noticed the porky scratchings on the card next to the Pontefract cakes behind the bar there- wonder do they do pickled eggs too? (DO NOT introduce Spaw to pickled eggs, PLEASE). A pint of that wonderful Mudcat DT ale please landlord, freshly drawn from the wood.... reminds me of a song I intended to post... |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: gnu Date: 12 Jun 01 - 03:24 PM Some good bball on the go. Enjoyed Stanley's Cup. French open play was okay. But what I found awesome was The British and Irish Lions tour opener against Western Australia. I don't know if this should be allowed. I mean, c'mon, 116 - 10 ? What's gonna happen when their captain is healthy ? BTW, what do you Scotsmen and Welsh think of the name British & Irish Lions ? O'Driscoll and O'Garra et al would still play if it was just British Lions, wouldn't they ? Hey... I just had a thought. Does the tavern TV get Aussie Rules ? I only get the Grand Final - one game a year. If it does, I may have to move in. tightheadgnu |

Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 12 Jun 01 - 04:16 PM I love Aussie Rules football. It's like two semi-organized mobs in a continual melee. I also like the scoring judges in the top hats. Are they supposed to represent British Imperial Authority with those hats? |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: gnu Date: 12 Jun 01 - 04:29 PM Semi-organized ?! It's got the leather balls of rugby, the field marshallship of Yankee football, and the pace of soccer. They could lose the judge hats and jackets, though. Kinda fay, really. Speaking of fay, why is it that the coach of a baseball team wears a uniform ? While it was a Canadian invention, I think the uniform thing must have been thought up by a Yank. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: Lonesome EJ Date: 12 Jun 01 - 04:50 PM Canadian invention? Baseball?? Abner Doubleday invented it, and he was a New York Yankee in every sense of the term! Now, maybe Aussie Rules just looks like chaos because I don't understand the nuances. Hell, so does Rugby. |
Subject: RE: BS: Mudcat Sports Bar From: gnu Date: 12 Jun 01 - 05:31 PM Whatever. All I know for sure is that Abner invented the uniform thing. It's a great game, except for the uniform thing, and I really don't care who invented it. We had enough baiting and teasing in the Oh Canada and Only in Canada and... threads to last a lifetime. It was all in good FUN. BTW, any Smarties behind the bar for a snack ? |
