Subject: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: GUEST, at a table for one... Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:04 PM I stand in the moonlight, not far from the theater where the films of Bogart, Hepburn and Stewart play side by side with others such as "Romancing the Stone" and "Sleepless in Seattle". Fabulous dance music fills the air as it drifts toward the sandy beach at my feet. Yet she is not here. Strangely, the world around me seems totally devoid of those countless numbers of single women who claim these as their favorite things. One would be led to believe that they would swarm by the thousands to spots like this. Lies! All lies I tell you! Where else could they be? |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Walking Eagle Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:17 PM Meanwhile a woman in a nearby apartment building stands staring wistfully out of her window. She is looking at the beach and wondering when had it become so unsafe for single women to take a moonlight walk by themselves. She had been to a movie this evening, starring Humphrey Bogart and Katherine Hepburn. Where has the romance gone? Why don't people treat others with the civility they deserve? She had thought about a moonlight walk on the beach when she left the theatre. But, there was a lone man on the beach. Better not, she thought, as there have been two rapes on the beach this year, and it was just April. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:22 PM Last time I went for a moonlight walk on a beach, it was about 15 below, the wind was around hurricane force, I stepped in something disgusting left by a dog and grazed my knee tripping over a dead deck chair. I'm going to stick to nice warm chairs and a cat on each knee! LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:23 PM Believe me, I wish I was there! Is the Champers cooling nicely and the air heavy with mimosa? Where am I in reality........wrapped up in a pair of cosy PJ's, staring at the instructions of my replacement toilet seat. And wondering what sort of tool undoes the bolts that holds the current one on, and if I have such a tool will I also develope Samson like strength to undo the said bolts. Hate to burst your bubble. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Amos Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:32 PM Pliers usually do the trick if you can't get an open end wrench onto them. Failing that, vicegrips, or tear the whole damn toilet out and toss it. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: GUEST Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:36 PM Right then pliers it is. Thanks for that. Wouldnt know an open ended wrench if it bit my nose off I'm afraid. They just look like they are not going to budge. In fact I am going to have a glass of white and look at them again with menace. Would rather be on a moonlit beach though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Little Hawk Date: 07 Mar 04 - 05:42 PM Lovely idea! I'm gonna do that moonlit walk as soon as the weather improves. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Bobert Date: 07 Mar 04 - 06:19 PM Ahhhh, if you were looking fir single women you should have gone to the welfare department. Plenty of 'um there. Not a man in sight... Hope ya like kids... Awww, jus' funnin'... Next year, do the singles cruise ship... Bobert |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Peace Date: 07 Mar 04 - 06:23 PM The difficulty, IMO, is that you are sitting at a table for one. Get a table for ten, and nine women will appear. Trust me. I saw it on a car commercial about 15 years ago. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Bill D Date: 07 Mar 04 - 06:36 PM I walked 'beaches' for years...finally met ONE woman of the right type who would also fancy me...I consider myself fortunate. You may have to trod a LOT of sand before the magic moment. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Walking Eagle Date: 07 Mar 04 - 07:10 PM I must have misunderstood. I thought this was the start of a story thread. Is it Table for One? |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 07 Mar 04 - 07:54 PM No, Walking Eagle, you didn't misunderstand. It can be a story thread if that's what you want it to be. You are empowered. It can also be a home repair thread, or a social commentary thread, or anything you want. Personally, I want it to be a thread about food because I'm getting hungry. Exactly what is this guy having for dinner at this table for one? Bruce |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 07 Mar 04 - 08:07 PM That toilet seat - if it's a metal bolt and rusted solid, take a hacksaw blade to it. Of course, you'll probably find they don't sell the bits to fix it, which would only cost a few pennies, but it should be easy enough to improvise something, with a bolt and a washer. .............. Maybe you should be serenading the moon and the sea, GUEST at the table. Like the lad in Slievenamon. A touch of the romantic exile might do the trick...: Alone, all alone, by the wave-washed strand All alone in the crowded hall The hall it is gay and the waves they are grand But my heart is not there at all, It flies far away, by night and by day To the times and the joys that are gone But I never can forget the sweet maiden I met In the valley of Slievenamon. It was not the grace of her queenly air Nor the cheeks of the roses glow Her soft dark eyes or her curly hair, Nor was it her lily white brow. 'Twas the soul of truth and of melting ruth, And a smile like the summer's day. That stole my heart away on that bright summer's day In the valley of sweet Slievenamon. In the festive ball and the wave-washed shore My restless spirit cries - 'My land, oh my land, shall I never see you more, My country will you never uprise'. By night and by day I will ever, ever pray, As darkly my life it rolls on, To see our flag unrolled and my true love unfold In the valley near Slievenamon. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Allan C. Date: 07 Mar 04 - 08:30 PM Hey, Table For One, how many times have you encountered divorced women who want their man not to have any "baggage"? How unrealistic can they get? |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 07 Mar 04 - 09:49 PM A verse from a song I wqrote: "where are the men who can find their contentment In a livingroom waltz, or a walk by the sea? Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: GUEST, at a table for one... Date: 08 Mar 04 - 12:41 PM I'm also wondering about investment opportunities in a candle/fine wines shop to supply those candle lit dinners they all seem to enjoy so much. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: JenEllen Date: 08 Mar 04 - 12:47 PM Perhaps we should combine this thread with the one about being allergic to whine, er, I mean "wine"... |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Ellenpoly Date: 08 Mar 04 - 12:53 PM I've walked that beach and seen those films dozens of times, and I just bet I passed right by you because you were looking for someone younger, or prettier, like Kate Hepburn or Meg Ryan, maybe? Keep looking bucko, but take the rose coloured glasses off and you'll find there are lots of us around...promise. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: catspaw49 Date: 08 Mar 04 - 01:02 PM So up to this point you have a mysterious woman on a beach collecting trash in the midst of a hurricane as she goes from house to house changing out toilet seats with a pair of pliers............................fascinating................. Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Amos Date: 08 Mar 04 - 01:05 PM ..but I can't tell where the character ends and the plot begins. Or maybe it's the other way around...or they don't. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Fibula Mattock Date: 08 Mar 04 - 01:25 PM Bit like sex on the beach - great in theory, and not a bad cocktail, but the sand gets everywhere, and you get cramp because it's cold, and you realise you're only doing it cos it looked good in a movie, and you thought it might be romantic to roll around in the surf in a "From Here to Eternity" type way, but it doesn't work quite as well at dawn in Ireland as it does in Hawaiian sunshine. A moonlit walk is preferable, and there's less chance of catching crabs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: GUEST,guest...gazing at the sunset Date: 08 Mar 04 - 01:42 PM ah there is the sun...sinking down into the ocean and the moon coming up on the other horizon. I wonder if there is someone who could share this experience with me, or should i just find comfort in my virtual friends that i meet thru this computer? as i howl at the moon....i hear my cat calling out for a partner, hollering in a distinctively lonely tone. |

Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Allan C. Date: 08 Mar 04 - 07:01 PM I'd advise joining groups or clubs that are related to things you like to do. In that way you will already have something in common with the women you meet. Most of the time it is the specifics that we find interesting rather than the generalities to which you have referred. How does she spend her time when she's not dancing, watching romantic films or walking the beach in the moonlight? By being here at the Mudcat you are already a part of a very large group. Yes, some of us do get together from time to time - however a lot of us are like Jerry and rarely see other Mudcatters. But what you need is face-to-face stuff on a more regular basis. Get yourself to the local song circle or civic organization or hobby group meetings. You might be surprised what you'll find there. |

Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: LadyJean Date: 11 Mar 04 - 12:55 AM 9 years ago, I took a moonlit walk on a sandy beach with a great looking guy who was, alas, married. I don't do married men. After some consideration, he decided he didn't care to cheat on his wife. We both agreed we didn't want sand in our underwear. OH Well. There are plenty of single women on the beach. But we don't all look like Playboy Centerfolds. It has been my experience that men are more interested in the package than the contents. |

Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Allan C. Date: 11 Mar 04 - 05:16 PM Lady Jean, I for one, learned long ago that the thin candy shell is merely the container that holds the rich, creamy chocolate within. BTW, I like dogs a heck of a lot more than cats. I like other people's cats somewhat but would never run out and buy one for myself. And as much as I love dogs, I agree with Mary Garvey: they should all be outdoors. Oh, and don't speak to me of shitzus and such dustcatchers. They are simply cats in disguise! |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: dianavan Date: 12 Mar 04 - 02:13 AM I'd rather have a moonlit swim - especially in the phosphourescence (is that spelled right?) Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Liz the Squeak Date: 12 Mar 04 - 05:18 AM Don't get many opportunities for skinny sea dipping or phosphorescence in the English Channel. Oil coating, pneumonia and being hit in the back of the head by a cross channel ferry though, those we can do you. I'd just settle for a walk on any beach with someone I trust. LTS |
Subject: RE: BS: Moonlit walks on sandy beaches... From: Ellenpoly Date: 12 Mar 04 - 05:47 AM So cat's aren't good at water skiing, huh?
