Hi Ive done a search The Strayaway Child and not found it on Mudcat.

Its one of the favourite tunes at the Boat session at the min so am keen to learn it.

Hi, Fliss - are there lyrics? It's an instrumental on the Alan Lomax recording of Margaret Barry, She Moves Through the Fairs. thesession.org seems to indicate it may be strictly an instrumental tune. MIDI, ABC, and notation available here (click).

Here it is in standard notation. Ascribed here to Michael Gorman rather than Margaret Barry, which seems likely enough. With an mp3 of Michael playing it.

In fact, it seems to have been a joint composition if details at The Fiddlers Companion are accurate.

Ive not heard any lyrics to it Joe.

Dont really know much about its composers, one site says they were married to each other.

Im still at the stage of listening to the tune in the sessions and humming along. We are going to have a go at learning it in our Sunday practice sessions.

Thanks for the link to the notation, it was great to hear it being played.

I notice Gorman is a Sligo fiddler. Ive been to the Coleman Heritage Centre in Gurteen, Co. Sligo, with my fiddle friend Anne Marie McGowan, and played in sessions in pubs there with Peter Horan... a great privilege.
