Friday 8th February 2008 - 8.00pm
The Music Institute Club in Guildford will be presenting Tom Kitching & Gren Bartley on Friday February 8th 2008 at 8 pm.

"Fiddler and BBC Radio 2 young folk award finalist Tom Kitching and Gren Bartley ("A young guitarist to watch out for" Johnny Coppin)bring the energy and enthusiasm of youth and a musicality that belies their age to a rich repertoire of songs and tunes traditional and self-composed. They have quickly come to people's attention after appearing at numerous festivals in 2007, where Gren's accomplished finger-style guitar, Tom's exciting fiddling and their eclectic material and broad command of styles wowed their audiences.

We at Music Institute folk club are really excited about the number of young performers that are emerging on the folk scene - not only the quantity, but also the remarkable quality. We therefore feel it important that we should support them as they embark on their musical careers and hope that you will be able to get along and support us. You won't be disappointed."

Admission £9.00 - Members £8.00
Tickets can be obtained on line at Music Institute

Refresh

Just a reminder that this is taking place next Friday (8th February).
So far there are plenty of tickets available. It's interesting to note that sales have been slow - although I have seen very good reports of this duo in other places, I have personally not heard them yet. However, Lawrence Heath, who runs the club, has never yet (to my knowledge) booked a duff act for any of his concert or club gigs, so I'm sure they'll be worth seeing

It's noticeable that tickets for (say) Les Barker, Sid Kipper, Jez Lowe, Bill Caddick etc all sold considerably faster. Each and every time we have younger guests at the club it has proved more difficult to shift the tickets for the gig - although on every occasion those who do turn up have never failed to enjoy the evening !! Speculation at the moment is that punters are unwilling to try the acts unknown to them(and specifically the young unknown), that the current economic trends mean that everyone is being a bit more cautious about their cash etc. (For instance, it's noticeable that a number of the regular monthly ceilidh venues in the south are in trouble ... numbers of dancers are down etc ....is this related ?)

It would be interesting to know people's opinions on this .... or maybe this is tantamount to opening Pandora's Box and letting all the little evils of the world out to play???

Whatever the case, we'd love to see you at the Club on Friday next ... I'm sure that Tom and Gren will give us a good evening of entertainment!!

Irene

Having just returned from our evening at the club, I can echo the fact that a very good evening was had by all... really good musicianship, and a very nice couple of guys .. .well worth seeing ... at Melksham today (Saturday 9 February) and then Twickenham on Sunday (10th) - talk about lunatic placement of gigs!!!
