Since McCain first proposed it, I thought that the "tax holiday" was penny ante pandering. Virtually all economists say its a bad idea and according to the "The Economist" Hillary admits that "the experts" don't agree but she wants to do it any way. I keep hearing about her experience and about McCain's and I am almost convinced, then I see how bad their judgement is and I have to agree with Obama. Judgement counts for a lot.

Experience without judgement is a bad thing. It just gets us into bad situations faster. Bush's cabinet has experience in the system and bad judgement about Iraq.

The reason she wants to do it, Jack, is she thinks it will get her some votes from people who can't see any farther than the end of their own nose.

Ditto for McCain. ;-)

It's not that they don't have "judgement", it's that they are playing the election game and pandering for votes.

That's what "experience" in Washington gives you, a series of short term fixes at election time followed by gridlock for the rest of the year.

I expect that this is currently being used as a practical exercise in Economics 101:

"If you decrease the price of gas by $.18 per gallon (the approximate amount of the Federal gasoline tax), what is the effect upon demand"? "Correct! Demand changes inversely with price, so demand would increase." "Now, what is the impact upon producers' profits of an increase in demand?" "Correct again!! More gas would be sold, leading to an increase in their bottom line. Profit, which is a percentage of the price per gallon, increases directly with increased demand."

Seems to me that this plan is a direct subsidy of the gas companies and OPEC. Even if Sen. Clinton's plan to enact a windfall-profit tax on the gas companies to make up for the lost road repair funds were to go through, I can't see how that would affect the extra $billions heading toward Saudi Arabia and Venezuela.

Here is the rub...

What happens after summer??? If anyone proposes going back to collecting the 18 cents they will be blasted a "tax and spend" liberals...

Ahhhh, not to mention all the other sound reasons not to do it...
