How fast should politicians reverse their campaign promises after being
elected? In Canada, a new premier was elected(Nova Scotia),
and within a week of being sworn in, he decides to leave out an environment expert from his cabinet, and started hiking taxes. These were sudden, and quite unnecessary, as we don't need a tax hike, and we do need to turn some attention toward the environment.

So, this happening a week after being elected, do you think that's a
little quick to reveal what they were lying about?

Hey, at least the guy is getting on with it. Most politicians like to screw the people that voted for them slowly, so it doesn't hurt as much. This way, you get it over with quick and then he can collect a paycheck and pensionalbe service without screwing you over again for another 4 to 5 years.

Hahahaha... just kidding... wait til next week and see what happens next!

As Utah was fond of saying, and I concur, "If elections could really change anything, they'd be illegal."

Political promises have nothing to do with reality, the sooner forgotten, the better.

OK, that's carrying it too far, but once elected, the best a politician can do is enact compromises, unless he has a very strong majority among the elected representatives.

Perhaps the new premier reconized that his promises were dead in the water, and backed off to a more tenable position.

Politicians are proteceted by law in that they cannot be held legally accountable for anything the promise during and election campaign. FWIW.
