Subject: Obit: Jane Goodall (1935-2025) Primatologist From: robomatic Date: 03 Oct 25 - 06:52 PM Louis Leakey famously told Jane Goodall in 1960, "Now we must redefine tool, redefine man, or accept chimpanzees as humans" after she reported that the chimpanzees she was studying used tools to fish for termites. She passed on 1 October 2025. She has her own Jane Goodall Institute She has interviewed with NPR over the years at Fresh Air and on Science Friday. And I daresay on the Beeb as well. Aside from Chimps as tool users, she discovered them as inter species warriers and 'murderers' as well. Her wonderfulness as an expert was due to her long term and detailed observations of animals in the wild. |
