There has recently been some accredited research into the identity of this historic and iconic film camera shot. Evidently her name was Rosa Muller. If there is any interest in this thread I will gladly pass it on to you in a later post. I can warn you it is not pleasant and I find it harrowing. Czech Partisans are responsible for her violation and the damage to her face. It seems to have taught us nothing!

I've heard a lot of contradictory stuff about this unfortunate woman, all of it speculation, as it turns out, so ... if you know something, do tell.

Not just speculation but complete fiction. There are two respected historians who are 90% sure they have it right.

Key Research Findings
Identity & Origin: The girl is believed to be Rosa Müller, born on August 28, 1925, in Weißensulz (now Belá nad Radbuzou, Czech Republic), a location consistent with the filming area.
Circumstantial Evidence:
Post-war Activity: Records indicate she was held in US-run detention camps in Pilsen (Karlov 1) and later Ingolstadt, Germany.
Marriage: Documents show she married Hubert Wilhelm van Wyk on April 30, 1945, in Prague, and later married Friedrich Dürr in 1952.
Physical Features: Observers noted a ring mark on her left hand in the footage, which aligns with her marriage to van Wyk just days before being filmed.
Background: She was identified as a 19-year-old Luftschutz (civil air defence) helper.
Displacement: Research suggests she was beaten by Czech civilians near Ejpovice and was in mortal danger before being found. She later moved to Ingolstadt, Germany, in September 1945.
Current Status of the Investigation
Challenges: Some researchers have pointed out that "Rosa Müller" is a very common name, and concrete, irrefutable proof (like a direct statement or specific photo confirmation) is still lacking.
Obstacles: Recent attempts to access her birth records from the registry office in Belá nad Radbuzou have been blocked due to relatives forbidding the release of information, claiming harassment by researchers.
Validity: Despite the lack of a "smoking gun," the case for Rosa Müller remains the most credible and detailed theory currently investigated.
Researchers believe she survived the war, perhaps marrying again in 1952, and lived a long life, possibly passing away around 1995–1996 or even later, although some potential obituaries found for a "Rosa Müller" have not been definitively matched to her.

It's the best research so far, and is free of the fictional 'rescue fantasy' mentality of a lot of what we hear, especially some of the
you Tube video's.
Evidently some of the details of her abuse have been published online, and suffice it to say, after she had suffered the attack, somebody stamped on her face (sorry!) and it seems she has a broken jaw, who or whatever she is she did not deserve that. This is why she moves me and so many others to find out about her. As Eric Bogle wrote, it's happened again and again. Please excuse my bleeding heart but I'm not ashamed. In the video she shakes her head when asked a question, and then bows her head asking for mercy, holding a wedge of useless banknotes and her identity booklet. No wonder she is an icon of man's inhumanity, so maybe I am ashamed. Let's hope we have discovered her name at least.

More info has been made available by one of the German researchers and they may have found an obituary, You need to know that Rosa married a Dutch SS soldier on May the 8th the day Hitler killed himself, to obtain Dutch nationality. The marriage was one of convenience, and was an attempt to flee to safety. The researcher tells us the following, His English is better than my German!:

The known facts in brief :
On 8th of May 1945 Rosa must flee to the demarcation line near Pilsen and during this escape, she probably even had to witness her husband being murdered.

After that Rosa was registered in in Karlov 1.

According to the detailed researches from Wofi, Rosa moved from Prag(?) to Ingolstadt at 06.09.1945.

She have married a Friedrich Dürr on 08.11.1952 in Ingolstadt

And now just some assumptions:
Her marriage to Friedrich Dürr later ended in divorce and Rosa resumed her birth name.

She never remarried, or any later marriage did not last, so she kept her birth name.

Rosa had no means of saving personal documents and photos from her homeland during her escape, or even later, so her family members in Ingolstadt had no additional information about her (this sounds very probably for me because this was the same with my mother who must flee from Schlesien to Western Germany 1945)

Sometime later Rosa moved from Ingolstadt to Weilheim (the place name in the obituary)

When she finally died in October 2022 after a long life, her surviving relatives no longer had any reliable information about her date of birth and maybe even about her birth place because she had been unable to save any relevant documents when she fled in 1945.
Therefore, due to a lack of better information, the date of birth was given as shifted by one day, and (as already mentioned) it is possible that even the knowledge of her birthplace was lost over the years. And without knowledge of her birthplace, there was no indication of which registry office to contact for research.

Therefore, for me it is not entirely out of the question that the Rosa from the obituary is exactly "our" Rosa Müller, who was born on August 28, 1925 in Weißensulz.

But anyhow, if I get it well (name of researcher Wofi) has already contacted that family – without any feedback so far.
