Hello, I am looking for the source of a song/story that a friend of mine heard on a river trip in the Chesapeak Bay area over 10 years ago. Basicly it's a story of a mean man who loves to fight that is captured by the Devil. A stray dog by the name of Morgan Dingo Baily saves the man and the man is changed, he now would rather sing to folks than fight them. Has anybody heard of this song and if so who wrote it & where can I find a copy of it. I have looked everywhere and this is truly my last hope. Thanks, Dean P.S. Go easy on me if this message is out of line or inproper it's my first post to this place.

Not at all improper or out of place!

I've sent a call in to the "Unanswered Requests" thread, and hopefully the combination of that and the refreshing of this thread (by this post) will get you results.

In the meantime, hope you enjoy the site. I'm no one of consequence around here - few of us are, really - but accept my wishes anyway if you will.

M

Shame on you, Sean. Everybody is "of consequence" here.

Dean, the rest of Sean's post is on the money. I don't know anything about the story but someone else may and will be along shortly. Sometimes, if weather is nice around the various Mudcat locales then answers will be a little slower. But keep your eye on the thread and something will happen.

Hint, if you join up you can "trace" the thread from your personal page and find it even if it drops out of the daily list.

Thanks, y'all seem like nice folks. I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate around this place. I would imagine becoming a member would help. Oh yeah, the man who heard the story/song of Morgan Dingo Baily and relayed it to me heard it on the Chester River, wherever that may be. I'm a storyteller and I have been telling this song as a story for a number of years. It has changed over time but I kinda feel obligated to find it's source.

Hope someone can help, thanks. Dean

G'day Dean,

I know this if from far left (or maybe that should be south) of the field, but I'm intrigued by the fact that the stray dog should have Dingo as a middle name(... er, a dog with a middle name ...!).

As you may know, the Australian wild dog is called a dingo and I'm wondering if this song/story has some sort of Australian connection somewhere ... not that it rings any bells with me, down here in the Antipodes.

Regards,

Bob Bolton
