Cheers to all you UK Mudcatters, some of whom I've had the pleasure of meeting recently.

In 1964 and 5, under the name Joanne Hindley-Smith (see Bunjie's archive),I sang professionally in a lot of folk clubs that were upstairs over pubs in big cities, medium-sized towns, and little villages all over England. Are there similar rooms in operation now? And in those days I was invited to play concerts at institutions of higher learning, such as Sheffield Teacher Training College. Do those opportunities exist today?

I'm wondering if you who know who are hiring folk singers in Britain would be so kind as to tell me.

Ta.

Joanne

They still exist but are increasingly difficult to get bookings at. I would suggest you try contacting an agent - 'fraid I can't supply the name of one - perhaps someone else will be able to or offer other suggestions

A number of 'catters such as "cllr" and "the admiral" run folk clubs. Presumably they could tell you how this bookings thing works. Jude

Morticia and Gomez may also be able to help.
