Subject: Tunes and luck From: GUEST Date: 29 Jun 02 - 05:01 PM Someone writing in the Irish Times yesterday referred to the Macbeth-like reputation of the tune "Pretty Girl Milking Her Cow". Wha? Are there other tunes that are regarded as lucky or unlucky? And does the Cailin Deas Cruite have that rep? |

Subject: RE: BS: Tunes and luck From: Jeanie Date: 29 Jun 02 - 05:45 PM Well, I do remember at the Essex Folk Festival 1968 (or 1969) held in a marquee behind a pub in Collier Row, Dave and Toni Arthur sang a song which they said would raise the wind - and it did ! (No, it wasn't *that* kind of wind) - the whole tent suddenly billowed and nearly blew away. "Guest- Peter from Essex" was there and, I think, probably Pavane, who will verify this, if they read it. I've heard that there's a Macbeth-like effect from the song "Long Lankin". Not surprisingly. - jeanie |
