Heard there's a regular folking get together here on Sat nights, with camping.

Anyone know?

Nice pub... we used to stop there sometimes on our route between N Wales and Sheffield. I don't know the situation now but I believe they used to allow camping in the barn on the opposite side of the road.

I only tried the pub for folk once a few years ago when I was in Sheffield visiting Tim. It was not a good night for us. The room with the music was packed, we couldn't get in and we ended up moving on to another pub. If it's still like that, make sure you get there early...

Jon

Like that little girl, when it's good it's very very good, but... :-/

I've not been up there for a while - I used to go fairly regularly but I've not been up there for about 5 years now. Camping is in a field just to the side - there's a cold tap and a loo, and that's the extent of the facilities, but it's only £2 or £3 or something like that. Or you may be able to use the barn across the way (known as the "pig loft", bcos it's a hay-loft over an ex-pigsty) which has room for about a dozen if they're friendly but no facilities at all.

When it's a good night, it's brilliant. When it's empty though then it's a bit cold and damp. Best bring a friend or two, then even if no-one else much turns up, you can play yourselves and enjoy the beer (which is very good).

The owners and locals can look a bit ferocious, but they're actually OK, just kind of standard Derbyshire/Yorkshire really.

Graham.

we've been twice this year, both times with 2/3 other folkies.

1st time was brill in july -superb weather- & good company in pub- locals joined in with our music+ there was another couple of performers from Saddleworth way.But during evening some of younger people became a bit rowdy & noisy & took the edge off the evening a bit.

We visited again in September- just 3 of us- Mr Happy's supergroup: 'Senior Moments'.

Had a lovely meal in pub on the Friday night- they have a reputation for superb food!

Also played in the 3 Stags Fri nite to appreciative acclaim from locals dining there.

On Sat nite we enjoyed a most pleasant evening doing our greatest hits + same couple from Saddleworth & also were joined briefly by a concertina player from Buxton, but he left in a hurry 'cos someone accidently spilt some beer.

All in all, its a fab venue* the landlord stood us several rounds both nights & we'll certainly be going back for more in the not too distant future.

Campsite's good too* only £1.50 per night* but no 'pigbarn' any more-it got demolished.

How do we contact the 'old crowd' who used to attend regularly?

Forgot to say, there's also a cafe across the road that does breakfasts.

Both the 3 Stags Heads & cafe are way out in middle of hardly anywhere so its ideal for folking about if you only want to annoy a sprinkling of our population!
