BS: Zyban - anyone got experience of it?

Wondered if any Mudcatters had tried this as a stop smoking aid and what your impressions were. Needless to say, I'm considering it - don't fancy the gum or patches or such like, but wondered what this was like

A healthy lad in his thirties died from it in my home town a few years back and he's not the only one. You'd better check it out REAL careful. Re the gum, it can cause various problems, like polyps in the mouth and throat. The patch is the best among nicotine replacements, but it has no better success rate than cold turkey.

The best way is to study up on all the info you can, form a plan and take week off from all stress while you go cold turkey. I know, it's pretty hard, if not impossible, to take a leave of abscence from job, family, etc., but, it is the best way. Either that or tell them why you can't talk for a week.

The doctor had me take it about 5 years ago. I couldn't see any difference at all. Except that it cost too much and wasn't covered by my health plan.

I used it 4 years ago. The only problem I had was a bit of sleeplessness. I took it for about a month before quitting the cigarettes. I set a date and for about a week I smoked 1 or 2 a day until I decided that I wouldn't quit until I actually quit. Since that day I haven't smoked one. I continued with the Zyban for about a month to a month-and-a-half after I quit the cigarettes, then went down to 1 in the morning for a couple of weeks and then stopped the Zyban altogether. All the while I was monitoring my blood pressure and didn't even have to adjust my BP medication.

Worked like a charm for me. Your mileage, of course, may vary.
