Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: GUEST,Veronica Rutledge Date: 09 Nov 05 - 07:10 PM Winston Cholmesley-Panua! Oh, he is so dreamy! I have hundreds of pictures of him. And he has the same first name as Uncle Winston too, and a hyphenated surname to boot. He is supercool. I am going to vigorously lobby Aunt Penelope and Uncle Winston to buy me vacation tickets to Samoa. I feel that the risk of another tsunami so soon is, after all, quite minimal, but I shall take a life preserver anyway just to be on the safe side. TTFN! * Veronica |
Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Nov 05 - 07:12 PM If you stick to the front pages of the trashy papers you'd think there were about 100 people on the planet who mattered, and the rest didn't really exist. Most fame is local, as it always has been. People who are into folk music should know that instictively. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: Peace Date: 09 Nov 05 - 07:13 PM If you think Konishiki ain't famous, you jus' go say that to him. |
Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: GUEST,Veronica Rutledge Date: 09 Nov 05 - 07:22 PM You're so right, McGrath. The fact is there are several hundred people on the planet who matter, and I suspect I have met most of them by now. Well, half of them, anyway. My Aunt Penelope, I'm sure, has met virtually all of them. Now, take the Ramsbottoms, just up the lane. They think they matter, just because they have a huge mansion and giant egos to go with it. But the fact is, they don't matter! Not in the least. They're as inbred as Pomeranians and about as silly too. I can vouch for that. The day the Ramsbottoms matter will be a sad day for England! TTFN! * Veronica p.s. Konishii may indeed be famous, but he's not cute. Ugh! He's absolutely gross looking. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: GUEST,Fossil in NZ Date: 10 Nov 05 - 01:23 AM In 1991, just before the famous rugby match, I was in Cardiff on business. I stayed (quite by chance) in the hotel that the Samoans and their followers were using. The lifts held, according to the little plaque, eight persons. Or, in reality, two Samoan rugby players and one very squashed Englishman! I've never seen bigger, or tougher looking guys in my life. Or, once I'd said 'hello' to them, nicer ones. Had a great time. Lovely memories. Famous? Who cares? Relaaaaaaaaxxxx, bro'........ |

Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: PoppaGator Date: 13 Oct 08 - 01:25 PM Although I wouldn't have been able to name ten, let along correctly spell the names, I'm sure that there are at least 10 gigantic Samoan NFL players who are not only famous, but fablously rich. Junior Say-ow is the greatest and best-known of all, and I'm not even albe to spell his name correctly. There are more on the way, too. Quite a few gigantic young Samoans are playing college ball every year, mostly defensive linmen and lanebackers, mostly at colleges in the western states. |

Subject: RE: BS: Name 10 famous Samoans From: PoppaGator Date: 13 Oct 08 - 06:14 PM Aha, so Jr. Seau is not a native Samoan ~ he's Samoan in the same sense that I'm Irish. I guess that doesn't count. A year or two ago, there was a championship high school football team in Texas most of whose players were Pacific Islanders. While their parents were immigrants to the US (many of them settling as a group in a single small Texas town), some of the the kids were Texas-born and others island-born. In any event, they considered themselves Poynesian, or whatever, and scared the shit out of their opponents by performing a traditional war-dance ritual before games. The relatively small numbers of white and black teammates gladly joined in the spectacle. |
