Subject: BS: Your Life (Outside Mudcat):The Fun Stuff From: wysiwyg Date: 08 Mar 07 - 10:39 AM I often get quite a giggle when I see a Mudcat wrangle descend to the "you must not have a life" thing; all the Mudcatters I know have quite a life, and quite a lot of fun in it, too. So I was thinking that a fun thread might be just giving a very short textual snapshot of something fun in your day coming up, or lately-- the Glam Mudcatting thread is a such a hoot partly because of the brevity of the wacky images it evokes. So I'll go first: Gospel Morris Liturgical Dancing ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: Your Life (Outside Mudcat):The Fun Stuff From: Jeanie Date: 08 Mar 07 - 01:53 PM You asked for the "fun stuff": well, last week, once nightly, you could have seen me wearing bowler hat, tweed jacket, cravatte, long black skirt, brandishing a riding whip, prancing about (with several others) on an imaginary horse, to music. That was my fun highlight of last week. This week I have taken children to the moon and another lot on an extremely spooky ghost train to a place where they built weather-making machines. Didn't get paid for prancing with the whip (the pleasure was enough !) - but will get paid for the other stuff. All true. - jeanie |

Subject: RE: BS: Your Life (Outside Mudcat):The Fun Stuff From: mrdux Date: 08 Mar 07 - 04:19 PM Well, it looks like a busy weekend upcoming. My former next door neighbor -- we lived next door to each other for almost 20 years before I upped and moved across town when I got married -- and I have been woefully out of touch recently, and my wife invited him over for dinner Saturday, so I'm making a cassoulet and opening an old bottle of wine or two. Sunday morning, the plan is reading the Sunday Times (starting with the Magazine and crossword puzzle) and a cup of tea and listening to some newly acquired recordings of French song (Faure). Later, hopefully, a hike with the dogs, maybe along the slough to see what waterfowl have started passing through. I've also been slacking on a photo project that a friend and I have been working on, and the hike may be a good opportunity to get back on track with it -- if I can get my wife to hold the dogs' leashes (she's usually pretty good about that). Don't know what else. I'll also probably have to put in a couple hours of work-related writing, which isn't exactly what I'd call "fun stuff." michael PS to Amos -- Sounds great. A good friend of mine, the husband of one of my business partners, is just now learning to fly and he's become completely enraptured by it. |

So my life now is based around the Wednesday Craft group, & lunch on Thursdays with former collegues. On other days I do fun things like shop (6 CDs last week, tho 2 came from a birthdy gift voucher), head to the local pool for a bit of hydrotheraphy (walking around in the moving water for an hour), visit the library & my physio & doctors & buy groceries in the middle of the week, rather than before work, or on weekends. I haven't got round to the equally fun Spend Time with Retired Friends & Friends Who Work Part-time yet, give me time! In a couple of weeks I'm going ot the National Folk Festival for the first time ever without applying for leave! sandra since you asked, they are 3 Mudcatter CDs from Chantyranger & Radriano, and Gregorian Chant, Hildergrd of Bingen, Benjamin Britten's War Requium |
Subject: RE: BS: Your Life (Outside Mudcat):The Fun Stuff From: RangerSteve Date: 08 Mar 07 - 08:59 PM Now that I'm retired, I have less time to do what I want. I don't know how that works. Anyway, I have found time to try recipes that I didn't have time for when I worked. When the weather gets nicer I'll get back to my main hobby of driving to places I haven't been and going down rural roads away from the main routes to see what's there. I also get together with my band once a week to jam, and we have a once-a-month gig that doesn't pay, but we do it for fun. I'm also trying to teach myself new instruments. I'm also renting a lot of DVD's of TV shows that I didn't have time for back when I was working different shifts - Northern Exposure; Upstairs, Downstairs; The Pretender; Quantum Leap - the list is endless. |

Subject: RE: BS: Your Life (Outside Mudcat):The Fun Stuff From: Jeanie Date: 09 Mar 07 - 05:54 AM Alec: "imaginative interpretation" had been my intention in the way I described what I had been up to. Regrettably none of your "Items 1) 2) or 3)" for me, but we 'mature' ladies did get to see a couple of rather dashing young actors getting ready in the wings for The Bath Night Scene.
