Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday to gnu From: gnu Date: 08 Mar 14 - 10:40 AM My Bday yesterday started early in the morn with a poem from Freda Underhill... G stands for Gnu, whose weapons of attack Are long, sharp, curling jokes, and a very strange quack. To these he adds a name so short and strong, That even wordy mudcatters pronounce it wrong. How often on a dim and soggy eve The song soaked mudcatters ardently believe, 'Come, let us sing with ______' Then no more is heard but sounds of strong men struggling with a word; Meanwhile the distant Gnu with patient eyes Oberserves his music stand and sighs... Happy Birthday Gnu from way Down under don't drink too much or you may chunder with sincere apologies to Hilaire Belloc Thanks, Freda! It continued from there and it continues today with the posts above. Thanks all. Warms my heart. |
Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday to gnu From: gnu Date: 08 Mar 14 - 10:54 AM I wrote some posts at other sites... here is one from last night that sums up the best part of my Bday... I wrote several posts on other sites regarding my birthday as it relates to Mum. Ya see, she's the one that did all the work. All I did was cause her pain and start screaming... been at that ever since eh? >;-) I have just come from one and I snipped this from yesterday and today. It is rather personal but I feel it is worth sharing, if for nothing else than it makes ME feel good about today... I am delighted with my plan. Mum is 87 and not so well. She is saddened by the fact that she can't get me something for the big day. She is having a more than usual bad day today, so... I went shopping for birthday presents for Mum. I got 2 pairs of PJ pants, 6 pairs of HD socks and Kaspersky 2014 Pure 3.0. I put the items in one a them there gift bags what I got at the Dollar Store and covered it with the fancy white paper. I will take the bag to Mum's tomorrow AM and act real surprised like when I open up the bag and say things like "OMG! JUST WHAT I WANTED! HOW DID YOU KNOW?! AND SOCKS! AND KASPERSKY!!! I love you, Mum. Thanks." I hope she gets a laugh out of it. Yesterday, as I usually do on her and my Bday and at Kissmeass, I gave her two dozen roses, white and red, a big hug and a 'thanks for looking after me' for, well, this year it will be 57 years and nine months. Hmmm... part of that should be 'putting up with me' I suppose. Today... I made her laff when I opened my gifts. Best Bday present ever. Thanks for the good wishes, the PMs, the emails, the phone calls... |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday to gnu From: gnu Date: 08 Mar 14 - 01:06 PM Ebbie... guhnu is bang on. Oh... BTW... Freda... I am at this very moment having a bit of the hair of the dog that chundered me. Twas not my intention but neither was it my intention to prechunder until past 3AM talking on the phone with a buddy in a way west time zone. What a way to end a birthday. Thanks, buddy and keep yer head up comin over the blue line! Gee! I got Skyped by 8 people living in Europe and I got phone calls from more than that living in NA. Great fun. Telecommunications have come a LONG way. We didn't even have a phone until I was 9 years old because my old man grew up without one and he didn't care for them. "Good news and bad news travel at the same speed. Besides, all the neighbours have one if there is an emergency." Now, most people have TV and internUt and I appreciate my neighbours... from Germany to Iceland to UK to NA. Thanks. |

Subject: RE: BS: Happy Birthday to gnu From: gnu Date: 07 Mar 16 - 01:43 PM Thanks, peeps! Dan, I have always been legal... never been caught and that's legal according to my lawyers Pluckem Fuckem & Chuckem, Attorneys at Bench & Bar. Odd that I haven't received a florist's delivery or even a telecon from Bee. Perhaps she's walking the Royal Corgis or on a fox hunt. As for Chuck, the fucker never calls. Maybe the Shamrocks and Thistles I sent him years ago stuck in his side. As for Justin, I guess he's a tad busy on accounta he's gone south, eh? Went to visit Barry at the White House (Must be a tad embarrassing going to Washington after Barry said he might have the Stanley Cup at the State Dinner. Now, Canucks are polite so I expect, if Barry ever goes to Ottawa, Justin won't say a word about the dishes used at our State Dinners... Canuck joke). |
