Help, Mudcatters!

This is NOT a music thread. It has nothing to do with music at all! But it is no worse than some of the other BS in the threads today!

Hardi amd I missed the episode that explains how TV DA Adam Schiff left office as DA. And they never refer to it in the show! So it's been driving us nuts for weeks!

I just spent the last hour trying to find out where the hell Adam (the character played by Steven Hill) went this season. Oh I found out that the ACTOR decided to retire from the show, and there were even various forums arguing about whether the change in cast made any sense-- and there was a site with episode synopses, but I did not find any for THIS year.

And BTW! The forums out there-- (shudder).... NOTHING compares to MUDCAT, even on this place's worst day!

C'mon, admit it-- you watch some TV, right?

~Susan

But I still miss the prosecutor that Angie Harmond replaced (though I can't remember her name).

That show has done really well with a changing cast.....Now with Steven Hill gone, that completes the whole cycle....not an original member left.

Angie Harmon replaced Carey Lowell as.... oh well! Can't recall that now! CRS!

Spaw, we do that too! I can usually spot them now in the opening shot... before the dialog, I'm announcing, "This is the one where...." But worse-- I also missed part one of the current two-part Nero Wolfe, due to the Gathering!!!! (I hate it when that happens! *G*) But don't you think that now that Timothy Hutton is directing, he is also overacting as the glib Archie, just a TAD??? And didn't you always think Nero would be Orson Welles? Too bad he died... him and Hutton, wouldda been good...

Yes, Sport Violence Unit. Bad at first but got better. Too sleazy at the start... now, more drama, more acting.

We preferred (for the record), HOMICIDE until that silly Luther Mahoney story line. Mike Kellerman, IMNSHO, drew a series of really stupid story lines. I liked Bo Felton's death best, and Kay's trip home to find a murder to solve, and how about that coffin sex stuff?

But we like NYPD Blue best. FX has early reruns on nowadays-- before Diane arrives. Our time zone, Mudcat time that is, 7 PM.

SVU blows. It's just an icky version of Law and Order, with crap acting. How many s&m-loving transexual hookers can be sodomized and murdered by their own illegitimate millionaire infant children, only to have things complicated by their former lover's trained Chilean rape-dog's diplomatic immunity, in NYC in one season? SVU knows the answer.

I've been a fan of the REAL Law and Order since the beginning, though. I'm glad that boney Texan is leaving. She's the only character I haven't grown to like. I miss Steven Hill, too. I like Dianne Wiest, too, though. (I think that's her name. I'm tired.)

Thread creep! I'm a great fan of the Nero Wolfe books and I'm gradually collecting them all(I've even got the cook-book!)and never knew there was a tv series. I remember a one-off with Frank Cannon (was that an actor or another part he played?) who was much too small (IMO). Wolfe has to be tall as well as fat. I always thought Raymond Burr was born to play the part but I suppose he was too busy with other products. Is this an old series? I can't remember it ever being on UK terrestrial tv ( but we only got our own tv in the mid-70s).I'd be interested in hearing about the casting of the main characters.

Steven Hill was also the first leader of the TV Mission Impossible team, first season. Mr. Briggs. What I can't figure is the folk who prefer Moriarity to Waterston, from the early ones. De gustibus non est dispudandum, I reckon.

I liked Moriarty but I am a big Waterston fan anyway... loved him in "I'll Fly Away."

Mister and I were just talking the other night about how Law & Order has had a complete cast turnover and the show's been on - how many years? Awhile.

Wasn't Chris Noth on there originally as the partner of the man who was assassinated in his front yard?

I will only watch SVU if Nash Bridges is a rerun. Although I sort of like Ice-T's character. And Belzer.

Richard Belzer's on SVU right? I like him though I can't watch the show very often. I wonder why they had to make it about sex crimes - why couldn't they just make it the say as L & O with a different cast (and would it kill them to move it out of New York?) Why do the networks think that if there isn't a billion NY shows on TV that all of the US will stop watching TV?

I actually get tired of watching NYPD Blue about halfway through each season because I don't like the way most of the characters talk and act (and before I get flammed: There is nothing wrong with NYers - It is just that enough is enough.)

How about a Law And Order from Montreal - that'd be something interesting (assuming that people kill each other there - though it didn't stop Colin Dexter from killing off people in peaceful Oxford for the Morse books).

RANT OVER - And now back to your regular programming.

There is a great English detective novel series about a fella called The Toff, by Creasey (Sp?). That would be great on TV-- has it been?

CH, I like the image that comes, Adam wandering around with his hair all sticking out, in a raggedy bathrobe, hasn't shaved in weeks... half-smoked cigars everywhere.... brooding over it all. McCoy stops by once in awhile to get fresh inspiration...

Yes, Chris Noth was on for a long while, and his partner did get it out front of his house.

How about when Claire Kincaid got it? Awful.

Or maybe Adam went on a world Scotch-tasting adventure with that heavy crystal he had in his office!

Great show, though I've not seen the new episodes. I figure my 14 year old will become a lawyer because of watching that black woman lawyer kicks the DA's butt a few times. Not a bad role model. So long as she makes enough to keep me in my old age...

What happened to Adam? One of the best actors in any role on TV, ever. IMHO. I always liked the way he was given the last or next to last wry comment at the end of the show. If all TV was this good...but, sigh...it isn't.

Peace. Mooh.

ADAM WHERE ARE YOU?

Maybe someone with a faster computer can do the search through all the fan pages and fora to find out-- it's rough going, I gave up after an hour!

Then just at the last, we can make up a song about his leaving and thus create this as a music thread!

I suppose it is not unlike playing Trivial Pursuit between sets at a coffeehouse.

It IS simply a great show....well written and a cast that we all continue to love even as it changes. Fine actors and good direction, well developed scripts..........hard to beat.

Oh...and Blackcatter........They were going to do one in my village, but we don't have a real police station or a police force and only one county deputy ....... and the day the Ice Cream store opens is the biggest day of the year! Some kids got in a fight there last year, but it wouldn't make much of a story.

Hey all

Spaw - sounds like you live in Mayberry - one of the best cop shows if you ask me.

So what is the name of the actor who played Claire Kincaid?

& Kim - I watch the whole night - Ed, West Wing and L & O. - I'm out that night (great open-mike a few blocks from my home) but I tape them and stay up till 3 am to watch them. Good Stuff!

And I miss Morse too - but they ran out of stories and that's about it - I certainly wouldn't expect someone other than Dexter to write them. Did you see the retrospective on the series on PBS? It was neat to find out that Colin Dexter did a "Hitchcock" and appeared in every episode - I'm looking forward to seeing them all again to see if I can spot him. I don't have cable so it'll be awhile (assuming they're on cable).

I liked the Morse series too. I would say that I also like Nero Wolfe but I'm never going to admit to reading such stuff.

I like the Toff (and even Gideon) too, even if they are a little juvenile at times.

But WHEN are they going to make some shows of Joyce Porter's "Dover".

L&A's OK. Tree watches it so it's often on.

The only shows on now that I make a point of watching are Sister Wendy and Robot Wars.

I saw this:

From Variety:

NBC has inked a major talent deal, landing Jill Hennessy (``Law & Order'') for the lead in a female coroner pilot. She will play Jordan Cavanaugh, an offbeat coroner who refuses to play by the rules. Hennessy played assistant D.A. Claire Kincaid on ``Law & Order'' from 1993 to 1996. The new series will start filming in Los Angeles in April.

Assuming the writers don't go on strike.

Now that we've all blown our cover and can no longer pretend we don't know what a TV is, L&O is a daily ritual at our house (and shrine of traditional culture) but I quit watching SVU. Partly it was what L. Rex said, but mainly the writers drove me nuts by constantly having the two star gumshoes alternately finish each others' sentences, through whole conversations. That overused gimmick got to me, wonderfully tolerant and understanding soul that I am. (Yes, I have a bridge I will sell you.)

Anybody see the season opener right after Claire died in the car crash? They occasionally refer to her death, but I missed the opener itself, how was it handled?

Also, I call the other one "SUV" instead of SVU, seems more normal to me. My main objection about it is that it is all Law, and no Order, in that they spend the whole show on the cops part trying to make the arrest, whereas what is so great about the original is that then at the half it switches to trying to get the conviction, so you really see both parts of the legal system. But I just love the actors, the Hungarian woman and her partner. I also really like the new partner for Briscoe on the regular show, and while I miss Adam Schiff a lot, I am reserving judgment in the new DA. When they replaced Claire with Jamie, one of the things I liked the most is that she (Jamie) was a little slimy, and not all ethics before all, she would cut corners and so on, added a real newness to the replacement of one white woman with another. I miss her, and don't like the new one as much, can't even remember her name now.. but then again, the class I teach is on Weds, and I've missed more L&O this season than I would normally allow myself. But if anyone could tell me how they handled Claire's death, I'd be grateful. I did see the car crash, where it wasn't immediately clear to me if she were dead or merely injured...

I do not recall that Claire's death was referred to much, except that people were obviously NOT saying much to McCoy, who was obviously preoccupied and not getting too close to anybody. They did make a reference to it at one point in the season, and I can't remember the context, but I remember the tone of it as a small thing said with everyone pausing with more deep feeling than words could get at-- a sense that everyone present knew what everyone else was feeling and no need to say it and no help to be had in saying it either. Understated-- pow'ful.
