Do you honestly believe the voters of the US would elect a brainless twit with no qualifications other than being wealthy and having a recogizable last name? Okay... Do you honestly believe they'd do it twice? |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Ebbie Date: 30 Sep 07 - 07:29 PM Now I wish I had loitered at David Letterman's show the other night. Hilton was a guest and when I switched on the TV she was saying to him that she didn't want to talk about the things that had been in the paper, and he said, But you see, that's all I want to talk to you about. I smiled at his candor and turned on to some other channel. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Peace Date: 30 Sep 07 - 07:34 PM "Paris Hilton is actually GWB's love child." Y'all go ahead and laugh, but has anyone checked it out on Snopes? |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: katlaughing Date: 30 Sep 07 - 07:38 PM I watched a little bit of it, Ebbie. I saw a young woman who may regret some of her actions and a bit of bullying from Letterman. I know folks will say she brought it on herself, but she was there to talk about others important to her and, though I usually like Letterman, I thought he was an ass about it, mostly because he didn't let it go, at least not while I was watching. It's so easy for folks to poke fun at the famous. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Don Firth Date: 30 Sep 07 - 07:40 PM Well, BWL. . . . Assuming the elections were honest (bit of a stretch there), then they did do it twice! Oh, Woe! We are DOOMED!! Don Firth |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Ebbie Date: 30 Sep 07 - 07:55 PM As I said, kat, that is all of the show I saw. I might agree with you more - actually, I do, at least to some degree- if Hilton were 16 years old. But she's not. She is old enough to know that there are repercussions and that it will take time and persisten effort to change the views of herself that she so assiduously cultivated. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 30 Sep 07 - 10:04 PM Let me get this straight... David Letterman, a TV host, was rude and abrasive to someone who was, nominally, his guest? Maybe he's getting tired of television and wants to become a university president. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Alba Date: 01 Oct 07 - 01:29 PM So that would mean that by having absolutely no money LH makes me "wise, good, and happy". Now that thought alone makes me feel a lot better about being financially mortified. *smile* |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Mickey191 Date: 01 Oct 07 - 02:21 PM Kat, I echo your feelings of Letterman's inquisition. I have no interest in P.H.-- I think she is more to be pitied then laughed at. Let's just ignore her. BUT Letterman came off as an arrogant bully who kept on. She asked a minimum of 3 times to change the subject. He kept on badgering her. At first the audience was laughing-but after awhile they were grumbling. I wanted her to get up & leave. Letterman is a jerk-used to be funny. He lost me the night years ago when two darling little brothers came on. (forgot the reason) They were about 6 & 7, and each had the same sweator on. Dave said: "Oh there must have been a sweator sale." It was mean spirited & the audience groaned! I surf between Jay(whose political bias is evident in almost every monologue) & Dave-waiting for Jimmy Kimmel. He is a gentleman & funny. Wish the other two would fade away. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: pdq Date: 01 Oct 07 - 02:27 PM Where once we had Johnny Carson, Jack Paar, Mike Douglas, Arthur Godfrey, Steve Allen and Dick Cavett, we now have Leno and Letterman. Don't seem quite fair. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Oct 07 - 02:31 PM I always try not to think in absolutes, Alba! ;-) David Letterman deserves to be interviewed by himself, so he can find out what it's like dealing with someone like that... |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Mickey191 Date: 01 Oct 07 - 02:37 PM "Enough money can accomplish any travesty in this world...but it can't make you wise, good, or happy." Little Hawk, May I disagree with you? Money can make one happy & good. If one chooses to be a benefactor, there is great joy in giving. Greater joy in giving wisely. I've always thought if I won Lotto I'd start the very next day finding people who could turn their life around with such a gift. How could I not be happy doing that? I guess it sounds silly & naive- but those are my thoughts. Saw Brad Pitt on the news-he and some friends are going to finance the building of 150 homes in New Orleans. Wonderful!! Absolutely!! Bet he's a happy man doing good. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Little Hawk Date: 01 Oct 07 - 04:19 PM Well, Mickey, I think that having more money can help a wise and good person make better use of their wisdom and goodness, I'll grant that... ;-) Money isn't "bad", and I'm not saying it is. It's simply a tool that can be used in various ways. Tools are neither good nor bad intrinsically, they simply are. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: frogprince Date: 01 Oct 07 - 08:05 PM Peace, you just gave me a flashback to something over 20 years ago, in Chicago. I noticed one day that any number of the clothing stores on the near north side, just off the lake, had little signs in the window saying "TVs welcome". I spent quite a while, brain dead, trying to make sense of the idea of stores bartering clothing for television sets. |

|
Subject: RE: BS: Blindingly obvious truths From: Little Hawk Date: 12 Jun 08 - 01:44 PM I hope you get that chance, Liz! ;-) I think we would all like to have that same chance. I know I would. (If I had unlimited funds though, well, that would require some quiet time to just sit and think about it and decide...what the heck do I do now??? And there would also be the problem of keeping all the other people from finding out that one had unlimited funds, because as soon as they do find it out, your life can become quite complicated from that point on...even dangerous. If you live in Trinidad, for example, you will be in extreme danger of being kidnapped and held for ransom if you're known to be wealthy, and sometimes killed anyway by the kidnappers after the ransom is delivered. It happens a lot down there. Having too much money attracts way too much unwanted attention from those who would like to get some of it.) |
