Subject: Wanted: Banjo teacher in Philadelphia From: GUEST,Tom K Date: 05 Jun 07 - 09:54 AM A fellow I know who is 75 wants to learn how to play banjo, go figure. Ha! Anyways, he says he has a tenor and has too much spare time on his hands. Can someone suggest anyone in the Phili area that could help get him going on some lessons? Thanks. Tom |
Subject: RE: Wanted: Banjo teacher in Philadelphia From: GLoux Date: 05 Jun 07 - 11:06 AM I can't recommend a tenor banjo teacher, but with Philadelphia being home to the Mummers String Bands which feature tenor banjos, there have to be a bunch of them available. There is also a considerable Irish string band community which also has a strong tenor banjo presence... -Greg |
Subject: RE: Wanted: Banjo teacher in Philadelphia From: GUEST,Tom K Date: 05 Jun 07 - 11:58 AM He might be interested in old timey frailing style too. That's done on a 4 string banjo, right? Any folk societies down that way? |

Subject: RE: Wanted: Banjo teacher in Philadelphia From: Dan Schatz Date: 05 Jun 07 - 02:15 PM Frailing would be done on a 5 string banjo, generally. And for that, Matt Brown in West Chester would be a good choice. You can find his contact information here. Dan Schatz |
