Subject: RE: Obit: Yves Saint Laurent From: Stilly River Sage Date: 02 Jun 08 - 10:30 AM The quote on the news this morning, I didn't hear who it was attributed to, was along the lines of "Chanel set me free, St. Laurent made me powerful." Remarkable career. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Yves Saint Laurent From: John on the Sunset Coast Date: 02 Jun 08 - 11:30 AM I wonder how many people sport 'authentic' YSL accessories that they bought at swap meets and indoor markets. "What a deal I got! A $200 YSL handbag for only $39." |

Subject: RE: Obit: Yves Saint Laurent From: M.Ted Date: 02 Jun 08 - 06:15 PM The real point is, how many people wear clothes that are copies of YSL designs, without even realizing it? "Fashion" seems superficial, but "style" has to do with how we want to see ourselves, and how we want others to see us--nobody contributed more to style than St. Laurent- |

Subject: RE: Obit: Yves Saint Laurent From: katlaughing Date: 03 Jun 08 - 10:20 AM Just read a very interesting article about him and his influence on fashion, part of which said: He created the wardrobe of the modern woman (the pea coat, the pants suit, the peasant blouse), opened our eyes to ethnic beauty and global style, and set us on a course toward the democratization of fashion, even as he elevated the rarefied haute couture to "the rank of art," as French President Nicolas Sarkozy said Monday. He was also the first to use black models, the first of whom was quoted as saying he made her proud of her colour. RIP, YSL and thanks for the directions you gave to fashion. |
