Yes, my state declared it's independence from England on May 4th. Then we had to wait two months for the other colonies to catch on to the idea. We tiny upstarts started it!

Congratulations, Rhode Island! I had so much fun, there, when we lived nearby in CT.

CT's awesome, too. Some people say CT should annex RI, but I say RI should annex CT! But seriously, where would I be without Mystic Seaport and the Sea Music Festival? Depressed. that's where! And the relatively new Gertrude Chandler Warner Boxcar Museum is small but wonderful. I want to get to the Prudence Crandall Museum someday, too. I've seen the Mark Twain House and the Harriet Beecher Stowe House. I've seen Niantic because my son and daughter-in-law lived there briefly before moving to RI, but there are many more things in both RI and CT that I want to see. Where are you, Kat? I get the impression that you are "up north."

She is "north" only if north means higher in elevation. :)

Way out west in Colorado, but I have a daughter and twin grandsons in Groton. We used to live in Old Mystic, then Mystic and I have kicked myself, many times, for eschewing the Seaport, partly because of expense, but also because of an abhorrence for whaling. I did get to meet some of the regular chantymen when they sang at a fund-raising a neighbour hosted to try to save a bluebird "hill" where a subdivision was being built. Now, of course, were I there, I'd go often and meet more of them and Mudcatters!:-)

We loved RI, too. I helped my brother do a concert of all of his original, classical music at the Music Mansion in Providence one time. There is some footage of it on youtube: Romance No. 1 (don't look at my "poodle" hair...I don't know what I was thinking getting such a tight perm!); it was pre-digital age, but people still seem to enjoy it. I've got more I need to get online.

Have fun!

kat

Nice video. You looked fine. I was at the Denver airport once, but that's all I saw of Colorado. I was changed planes there during a trip from Wyoming to Providence. I'd been in a rollover motor vehicle accident in Wyoming which had resulted in over 1,000 stitches in my head and a few behind my shoulder and in my wrist. I was in the hospital for several days and under general anesthesia both when the stitches were put in and removed. I would have flown any route to get home! I was lucky that the accident happened where it did, though, because the doctor who stitched me had had experience in 'Nam, so he'd had a lot of practice putting people together again. This was in '73. He suggested when I get home that I see a plastic surgeon, and I did, but I never had the surgery, so I'm missing the top of one ear and have some lumps and bumps in my forehead. The way of fixing my ear would have been to take skin from my armpit (I think) and graft it on. Didn't seem worth the bother, so I just make sure my hair is long enough to cover the tops of my ears!
