The Making of America Books (on line) comprises 8,618 volumes, almost 3 million pages, on every conceivable topic, mostly before 1900.
Included are books of poems, songs, rhymes, children's literature, history, science, religion- a great variety.
Masato called attention in thread 64091 to the complete eight volume 1860 edition of the Child "English and Scottish Ballads"

If my link doesn't work, please go to above listed thread and use one of Masato's links to get to Home and Browse in the Making of America website (I am not good at this). Child

A useful entry is the "Browse Main Entry" page, where entries are alphabetically listed by author, and title. Browse

Volumes I examined today included two children's books by Mary Mapes Dodge (1830-1905), "Rhymes and Jingles," and "Baby World" (selection from St. Nicholas Magazine for children).

Also found, just foraging, was
Ainslie, Hew (1792-1878), "Scottish Songs, Ballads and Poems."
Wm. Shakespeare, "The Dramatic Works and Poems."
Sherman, F. D., "Lyrics for a Lute" (poems)
Harte, Bret, Three volumes of poetry.
Hay, John, "Pike County Ballads" (and another volume of his poetry).
Hawthorne, Nathaniel, Passages from his English Notebooks (two vol.)
Wanless, Andrew, "Poems, and Songs, mostly Scotch."
etc. etc.

I've only looked at the "A"s so far. Also worth mentioning are

The Arkansas traveller's songster: (c.1864) "containing the celebrated story of the Arkansas traveller, with the music for violin or piano. And also an extensive and choice collection of new and popular comic and sentimental songs."

Lays of the Scottish cavaliers, and other poems by William Edmondstoune Aytoun (1852).

The spirituals in Hampton and its students, incidentally, begin on page 171, and are indexed on page 256.

Fenner's Cabin and Plantation Songs, in Hampton and its Students also is on line through DocSouth, Univ. North Carolina: Cabin Plantation This takes you directly to the spiritual songs. (http://docsouth.unc.edu/church/armstrong/armstrong.html#ham171)

The Making of America compilation at U. Michigan duplicates a number of books already on line from other sources. One wonders if some items will be withdrawn in the future from one source or the other in order to avoid duplication and cut costs. In some cases, the alternate source is easier to locate and peruse.

Apparently making a Boolian search takes some care in refining. A search on "poetry," "English" brought up 4072 records- apparently poetic fragments in works on history, etc., are included.

"Poetical works" and "English" brought up 338 titles. Again, some are works on history, etc. with poetic fragments, arrangement not alphabetical, but noted were:
Burns, Robert, The Poetical Works, 1855 (with original pieces from Brydges and correspondence, etc., edited by Cunningham).
Burns, Robert, Ther poetical Works, 1859, with additions not in Currie's edition.
Campbell, Thomas, 1855, Complete Poetical Works.
Byron, George Gordon, three volumes inc. two of poems and Childe Harold....
De Quincy, Thomas, 1853, Essays on the Poets, copies of his other writings.
Carleton, Will, 1886, City Ballads.
Child- The edition of 1860 noted by Masato, but the 1864 edition also is available.
Butler, Samuel, 1857, Poetical Works.
McSherry, Richard, 1850, "El Puchero, or a Mixed Dish from Mexico...Scott's Campaign..." May have poems and songs of the Mexican War period.
Thomas Hood poems, Hugh Miller (Scotland) works,
and so on---

I am copying this list for further foraging.

Checking on the McSherry book, the indexing as a "poetical work" occurred because the publisher included a list of other works for sale, including Shakespeare, etc.

Reprinting of all works is available at US$0.09 per page.
