Subject: Music Venues in El Paso or Las Cruces From: JedMarum Date: 15 Dec 04 - 05:20 PM I hate to keep driving by these towns and not playing ... there must be a venue or two for a folk/celtic/bluegrass sort-of player like me in this area. I haven't found any, though. When I head to NM or AZ coming from Dallas I always end up driving through this area and often spending the night ... any thoughts about where I might earn a buck on my way through? Or at least meet some folkies and play some music? I know the radio station there's played a few tracks from my CDs ... obviously a DJ of superior intellect and refined tastes! ;-) |

Subject: RE: Music Venues in El Paso or Las Cruces From: freightdawg Date: 15 Dec 04 - 05:38 PM Well, I don't know of any right off hand, but since both cities are college towns (NMSU is a notorius party school) I would think that there would be quite a few places to make a buck or two. Do you ever cruise through Albuquerque? While I am not aware of a folk/celtic/bluegrass specific venue here I know there are a lot of folkies in the area and the local paper does a good job of keeping up with coming attractions, etc. You might pm Art Brooks, who is in the Abq. area and knows a lot more about the local scene than I do...maybe he knows a thing or two about down south.....Also, SueB is in the Magdalena NM area and she might have a thought about a venue or two down there. Good luck, Freightdawg |

Subject: RE: Music Venues in El Paso or Las Cruces From: Marion Date: 16 Dec 04 - 07:39 PM Jed, I know how you can earn a few bucks - and quite a few pesos, too - in El Paso. Of the Texas towns I busked in, it was the best (compared to Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio). Marion |

Subject: RE: Music Venues in El Paso or Las Cruces From: Stilly River Sage Date: 16 Dec 04 - 10:11 PM I know we had this conversation before, probably the last time you were planning to head through those towns. A search of the various online yellow pages should come up with something. I don't know how durable these links are, but here is what turns up on "Music store" and then following the "guitar store" link for El Paso. The link. Maybe one of these places can point you in the right direction? You have to drop to the bottom of the list to find the actual brick and mortar stores. SRS |
