Hi all. Several 'catters asked at the Yorkshire gathering last night about the pub prop. I promised I'd post the info so here it is.

I think it's about $1.6=£1.00 so that would be about $16 postage I would think would add another $5-10, so anything up to $26. Cheaper than a new guitar or fiddle etc.

I doubt it, CH - anyway, it's a very neat bit of work and the fella that makes it is a good folkie. I don't know if he's got a patent on it, but he deserves to get a fair reward for it.

Someone in the trade over in the States ought to get onto him and import some. They really are handy, and work far better than those expensive clumsy guitar stands, as well as being far more convenient.

I have found mine invaluable. The Rubber moulded construction does the job it is intended to do without damaging tables. Although they still do not prevent someone standing on your instrument, it will not fall over whilst they are doing so ;-)

I am not sure why you would want anal dents in your guitar! It sounds like the sort of website that Catspaw sends us to!
Anway, as a banjo player I try to ignore the comments like "you can stick your banjo up your a......." I think I prefer to use my Pub Prop for holding it.

Brian also has a second model which is not a clamp, but balances on the edge of the table - that doesn't sound very secure, but I can assure everyone that it is, as I have been using it for nearly two years, having previously used his clamp. I find the "balance" model ideal for those tables which have a bevelled edge, which are difficult to attach the clamp to. It is also quicker to set up, as it is all in one piece (the clamp disassembles for flat packing). The price is less than the clamp model, also, being , I think, around seven or eight pounds sterling (but check on the website).

I bought a pub prop from Brian Mills a couple of years ago. It arrived promptly, with an apology for overcharging me (I'd phoned first to ask the price), and a 50p refund! Rare to find that sort of customer service these days.

I sent Brian an email with a link to this thread, so maybe he'll show up some time.

Incidentally, he makes little thingies to stick in the pub prop so that you can use it for fiddles or mandolins - which can clear up a lot of room on the table, and keeps the instruments nice and handy and safe, and out of the way of the beer mugs.

I've suggested he come up with one for bodhrans, but I don't think he has yet.

The cantilever version Joan from Wigan mentions is specially handy if you've got a hyper-heavy banjo.

List of instruments supported and held by the Pubprop; Guitars generally, bouzouki, cittern, 5str. banjo, octave mandola, mandolin, fiddle with bow on outside of strap, some apalachian (mountain) dulcimers, crutches!!

On a Sadder note: In Memory of a Great, Unassuming Guy who will be sorely missed - Kevin Harvey, who ran the "Full Circle Folk Club" has recently passed away. Ummm.. Brian... your new web page mentioned above, that McGrath made the link to, is really unfriendly to Netscape users... error messages, pages not being fully displayed, all things I though you'd like to know about...
