Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 May 01 - 02:26 PM That's very cool... I'm gonna have to get a couple of those!! ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: katlaughing Date: 20 May 01 - 04:42 PM Erik, do you know how much that'd be in dollars? |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Eric the Viking Date: 20 May 01 - 05:14 PM I think it's about $1.6=£1.00 so that would be about $16 postage I would think would add another $5-10, so anything up to $26. Cheaper than a new guitar or fiddle etc. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Malcolm Douglas Date: 20 May 01 - 05:21 PM Thanks for the info, Eric. Malcolm |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 May 01 - 07:17 PM 26 american eh? So almost 35 or so Canadian... ouch... I wonder if I can make one |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 May 01 - 08:20 PM I doubt it, CH - anyway, it's a very neat bit of work and the fella that makes it is a good folkie. I don't know if he's got a patent on it, but he deserves to get a fair reward for it.
Someone in the trade over in the States ought to get onto him and import some. They really are handy, and work far better than those expensive clumsy guitar stands, as well as being far more convenient. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: dick greenhaus Date: 20 May 01 - 09:06 PM hi- If anyone can reach the elusive "him", please tell him that CAMSCO would be delighted to sell Pub Props in the US. "He" hasn't responded to several inquiries by me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Geoff the Duck Date: 20 May 01 - 09:12 PM I have found mine invaluable. The Rubber moulded construction does the job it is intended to do without damaging tables. Although they still do not prevent someone standing on your instrument, it will not fall over whilst they are doing so ;-) GtD |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 20 May 01 - 11:41 PM Maybe he'll give me a deal if I order a few at a time... ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Bert Date: 21 May 01 - 12:47 AM SSheesh! how anal can you get? A guitar is SUPPOSED to have a few dents in it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 21 May 01 - 12:56 AM So go ahead and dent yours, bert... just stay the hell away from any of mine k ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Bert Date: 21 May 01 - 01:14 AM OK Clinton, My old Yamaha hung around on the sofa for years until Number One Son learned to play it better than I do. I'm PROUD of the dents that it aquired in the process. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Bert Date: 21 May 01 - 01:41 AM Hey Clinton, There was supposed to be a grin at the end of that message. Bert. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Geoff the Duck Date: 21 May 01 - 04:19 AM I am not sure why you would want anal dents in your guitar! It sounds like the sort of website that Catspaw sends us to! Anway, as a banjo player I try to ignore the comments like "you can stick your banjo up your a......." I think I prefer to use my Pub Prop for holding it. Quack!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: KingBrilliant Date: 21 May 01 - 04:50 AM These are also available from The Music Room which has various branches in the UK, and has online shopping. click here. They are the exact same thing & presumably made by the same guy. Kris |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 21 May 01 - 05:05 AM Bert, when the NYCFTTS opens the Willie Nelson Clinic for Guitar A& E do you want us to book you in? RtS |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Joan from Wigan Date: 21 May 01 - 05:08 AM Brian also has a second model which is not a clamp, but balances on the edge of the table - that doesn't sound very secure, but I can assure everyone that it is, as I have been using it for nearly two years, having previously used his clamp. I find the "balance" model ideal for those tables which have a bevelled edge, which are difficult to attach the clamp to. It is also quicker to set up, as it is all in one piece (the clamp disassembles for flat packing). The price is less than the clamp model, also, being , I think, around seven or eight pounds sterling (but check on the website). Joan |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 21 May 01 - 10:48 AM KingB... I don't see them in the Music Room at all... where am I missing them? ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: KingBrilliant Date: 21 May 01 - 10:57 AM Oh D*mnsh*t&b*ll*cks!!! Sorry Clinton. I actually bought mine from the Oxford branch in person, and just assumed that they'd be in the online catalogue. Ooops. You could try emailing them & asking. Kris |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 21 May 01 - 11:07 AM no biggie... I'll get it right from the wellhead ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Bert Date: 21 May 01 - 07:46 PM Do you realise that Willie Nelson might never have made it so big if he had gotten that hole mended. |

Pub Prop review and information
If you go to the above link to the Fyldefolk web site then to the Folk around the Fylde then click on "pete's reviews" there are reviews on the various pub props available....

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: GUEST Date: 22 May 01 - 03:03 PM I bought a pub prop from Brian Mills a couple of years ago. It arrived promptly, with an apology for overcharging me (I'd phoned first to ask the price), and a 50p refund! Rare to find that sort of customer service these days. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 22 May 01 - 03:25 PM That's cool! I've sent my email to him, and await his reply... There's a party at the pub tonight, and I really wish I had one to show off to all the boys who are gonna be there! I have a feeling that I could probably move 10, 12 or more of these things... Maybe I can get a distributor's discount eh! LOL!!!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Eric the Viking Date: 22 May 01 - 03:50 PM Dunno about that, maybe I should get a rake of from all the sales he's going to get!!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Roughyed Date: 22 May 01 - 06:11 PM I know Brian and he is one of the nicest people you could meet. Just thought you'd like to know. |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 22 May 01 - 08:18 PM I sent Brian an email with a link to this thread, so maybe he'll show up some time.
Incidentally, he makes little thingies to stick in the pub prop so that you can use it for fiddles or mandolins - which can clear up a lot of room on the table, and keeps the instruments nice and handy and safe, and out of the way of the beer mugs.
I've suggested he come up with one for bodhrans, but I don't think he has yet. The cantilever version Joan from Wigan mentions is specially handy if you've got a hyper-heavy banjo.

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Eric the Viking Date: 23 May 01 - 01:26 PM Swan, when you see him, tell him I bought mine at fylde last year, and we chatted for quite a while. I invented a prop for Bodhrans myself it,s called a Bowie knife Bye before the spears get thrown!!!!!!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 24 May 01 - 12:26 PM Still no word... maybe I'll send another email... |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Joan from Wigan Date: 26 May 01 - 03:45 PM I have just spoken to Brian on the phone. The email address on the website is no longer in operation, so he hasn't been receiving the messages. He apologises profusely for apparently ignoring mail. He can be reached on either of these: brian@briarmill.co.uk or brian@pubprop.co.uk He has also been having problems having the website updated, so the prices quoted are old ones and have been increased (although still very reasonable). He would be very pleased to hear from anyone interested in his products. Joan |

Not least, for this Wonderful Service laid on by our Host, the "Mudcat Cafe". I applaud You! P.S. Dick Greenhaus, are you still there, watching with Kat. Cost to U.S.A & Canada would be £12.50 I.M.O. around $19. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Pubprop Date: 04 Jun 01 - 09:09 PM On 26th May I gave an incorrect web address. I would like to apologise for this mistake and give correct detail: http://home.btclick.com/briarmill/index.htm Shortly found on www.pubprop.co.uk Sorry, Brian. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 05 Jun 01 - 11:04 AM I bought one of these to take to Greece next month as a "thank you for tolerating my singing" gift for my friend Yorgos - I'm always afraid someone will knock his guitar over when he has to get up to serve a customer. I overpaid by using an old website ad but Brian corrected me! More power to your elbow, Brian, stand by for a flood of orders from Europe! RtS |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 05 Jun 01 - 02:31 PM "I overpaid by using an old website ad but Brian corrected me!" - just another example of how the ways of real folkies are out of kilter with the ways of the world. And a lot better. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: GUEST,Roger the skiffler Date: 05 Jun 01 - 02:33 PM Too true, Kev (BTW, Brian, the correct cheque is in the post, honest!) RtS |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 11 Jun 01 - 02:17 PM Ummm.. Brian... your new web page mentioned above, that McGrath made the link to, is really unfriendly to Netscape users... error messages, pages not being fully displayed, all things I though you'd like to know about... I'll be adding a Pub Prop link and commentary to my gear page when I get 'em and have a chance to road test 'em a little bit... Just thought you'd like to know... ;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Jun 01 - 08:04 PM I've just checked with my version of Netscape, Clinton, and it seems to work fine. (Communicator 4.7 - maybe you've got a more modern version which screws things up?) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 12 Jun 01 - 08:16 PM And I've just checked, and it works fine with Opera as well. |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Clinton Hammond Date: 12 Jun 01 - 11:45 PM Lemme try something... *opens new window* nope... I though maybe it was that I didn't have Java on... I'm also using 4.7 Communicator, and I don't get any scroll bars on the sides of the page to scroll down with... and clicking the icons on the left hand side, sometimes gives me a message "Your browser sent a message that this server could not be understood" or something like... Any hints what that might be? |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Blackcatter Date: 13 Jun 01 - 02:12 AM OH! a pubprop is for a guitar! I was hoping it was something to enable me to keep drinking after I have lost the ability to sit up. damn. pax yall |

Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Harry Basnett Date: 29 Dec 01 - 07:06 AM Any 'catter who hasn't got a Pub Prop yet can get one from Brian at the Open Door, Bulls Head, Failsworth any Sunday...and for a wee bit cheaper.... |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Big Mick Date: 17 Nov 02 - 03:42 PM My dear friend, karenk, bought one of these for me after hearing Dick Greenhaus and I talking about them at the FSGW Getaway. Just one more reason for me to love this wonderful woman. This gadget is well thought out, well made, and reasonably priced. 'Catters in the USA (and I imagine Canada) can get one from Dick Greenhaus at Camsco. Dick is, of course, the founder of The Digital Tradition. His prices are very reasonable. He sells them for $18.00 each, or wholesale for $11.00 each (minimum order of 6), and all prices include shipping. If you play at sessions, or open mic's, you really need to get one of these things. I have the Mk II. It is an indispensable piece of equipment. I am going to get them for all my bandmates for Christmas, as well as another couple for myself. Mick |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 17 Nov 02 - 04:05 PM The Pub Prop is the same size as a packet of ciggies, and it's much better for you. (Stopping you having fits when your guitar slides to the floor in a crowded bar.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Pub Prop From: Allan Dennehy Date: 17 Nov 02 - 10:18 PM The Pub Prop rules! There is no sound in the world worse than the clatter of a good guitar bouncin off a stone floor at a session. OK there is, but I'm not going to start off about crappy crazed session musicians right now. Howarye Brian! Hows the crack? |
