Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 09 Mar 12 - 10:42 PM Jean Redpath would be on my list, too. She was supposed to be coming to the Blackstone River Theatre in RI in April (I think) but had to cancel due to illness. And Gordon Bok would be on my list, too. He had to cancel his Stone Soup appearance tomorrow because of illness. Anyone know any more about these two fine performers? I hope they are both soon well. I'd like Bob Franke, Si Kahn, the Johnson Girls, and Mudcat's own Debra Cowan and John Roberts on the list of performers. Oh, and Eric Bogle. Then I'd like to add some of my own favorite local performers, Joyce Katzberg, Bill Harley, Atwater-Donnelly and . . . Uh-oh, this is like the awards thank-you speeches: I know I'm leaving out someone. Since I can't carry a tune or remember lyrics, I won't be performing, but I will be singing along, albeit off-key. As for place, I'd like it to be on an island that has a good climate, all the amenities for comfort but not luxury, and not be too crowded (before we arrive) or too remote. I'm an omnivore but lean toward vegetarian choices, but Kat's vegan foods would be fine, too. And Kat, I didn't know about Micca's last name. In fact I don't even know what that last name is! While I've begun to figure out some of the Who's Who on Mudcat, in some cases I still don't even know who is using his/her name or, like me, a nom de plume, and in some cases I'm not even sure if posts are written by a man or woman! In my case, at least, that last should be obvious! One thing I do know, and that's that I'm praying! ; ) |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: katlaughing Date: 09 Mar 12 - 11:04 PM Well, if it's our fantasy and it can include those who've gone on, I want Rick Fielding to be there! And John Lennon. From those among us still, Art Thieme would be a must as well as many other Mudcatters. CL, if you are on facebook, check out the Mudcat there. Folks have been posting who they are in real life & Mudcat. Nigel, when I looked at your text in mod form, the O still showed up funny. I took it out, but not sure where you want a final "Lord?" It is in the first chorus text, so I figured the later ellipses included it. Please let me know if that's not correct. Good weekend to you all, too! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Janie Date: 09 Mar 12 - 11:51 PM Definitely Paul Simon! "This is the story of how we begin to remember This is the powerful pulsing of love in the vein...." |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 10 Mar 12 - 11:06 PM I want to add Emmylou Harris, Holly Near, and Jez Lowe to my list. Getting back to food, I would prefer organic plant produce, free range chickens, grass-fed beef (though I rarely eat beef), wild-caught fish) dairy products with no hormones, etc. I may be an omnivore, but I try to make the best choices. Kat, funny you should mention Mudcat on FB. I friended it and once in a while saw the Mudcat logo with a message on my Wall, but that hasn't happened for a while, and I knew nothing about the identities page. I went to it and saw no place for me to add mine. Then I went to Mudcat's Wall and had to request to join! I requested that and hope to be able to post soon. I have no idea what happened to my original connection to Mudcat on FB, though. I don't think I posted anything that would make me get unFriended! Nigel and Ann, well, you know . . . . I hope you are having a calm and restful weekend and enjoying reading our ideas for a folk festival fantasy. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: katlaughing Date: 11 Mar 12 - 01:23 AM Glad to hear you were "friended," CL. Second that on Holly Near, plus Ferron...oh, I'd love seeing/hearing both of them!! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 11 Mar 12 - 05:23 AM Yes, thank you CL...enjoying the reading & the fantasising. Today (Sunday), Ann, Jane, Alex (one of Jane's sons) & myself are going out for a traditional British Sunday Roast...can't wait! With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: David C. Carter Date: 11 Mar 12 - 07:58 AM I would go for Emmylou Harris too,Gillian Welch and The Civil Wars. Bon Apetit, Nigel & Ann David |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: GUEST,999 Date: 11 Mar 12 - 11:37 AM Ah, man, with Yorkshire pudding and gravy? Food always gets my attention, Nigel, especially roasts. Hope y'all have a great meal. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 11 Mar 12 - 06:10 PM Stop! You are making me hungry! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Sandra in Sydney Date: 12 Mar 12 - 03:04 AM roast beef, yum |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 12 Mar 12 - 03:36 AM Very pleased to report that the Trad. Roast Lunch was excellent...and served in one of the nicest restaurants we've been to in a long time...a converted boat house, right on the banks of the Thames. Good food (reasonably priced by London standards), ambience, wonderful views of the River with plenty of boating activity to watch, & the bonus, which all Brits & visitors appreciate...the sun shone the whole day! Jane's been having a rough time after the last chemo session & Sunday was the first day she felt more like her 'old self', so the meal + good weather+ good company gave her a much needed boost. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |

Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 12 Mar 12 - 11:49 AM I omitted to say regarding our 'Fantasy Do' (thanks Pete), that as it is a fantasy, in the marquee, Time can be manipulated to suit our needs, so we can compress or extend ad libitum, so the number of musicians playing, the socialising...eating, celebrating, has no time boundaries. Once you step outside the marquee, Time is exactly where you left it...you rejoin the 'Real World' seamlessly & effortlessly. I want to add Alex Campbell, Noel Murphy & Jennifer Warnes to my musician's list. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: GUEST,I Don't Know Date: 12 Mar 12 - 12:07 PM Can we add Jackie Leven, Sandy Denny, Bon Jovi and Ed Sheeren. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: fat B****rd Date: 12 Mar 12 - 12:24 PM Great to hear you sounding good, Nigel. Will there be dancing? If yes then Jr. Walker* is the man. Thinking of you and yours ATB from Charlie. *With the All Stars of curse. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 12 Mar 12 - 10:15 PM Glad to read Janie had a relatively good day! I'm hoping there will be more, better days ahead. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 13 Mar 12 - 03:08 AM The Musical Entertainment side of our 'Do' is taking shape very nicely. FB asked if there would be any dancing...OF COURSE...just don't expect me to appear on the dance floor any time soon. In my head I'm Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers, Rudolf Nureyev & Margot Fontaine all rolled into one...the problem is, all that wonderful 'head dancing' NEVER reaches my feet...I'm quite convinced that my feet belong to someone else...exchanged at birth, that kind of thing! Those of you who are not terpsichorially challenged, sand off the soles of your dancing pumps & start stretching! Now food...I would like to hire Phillip Harben & Fanny Craddock with her husband, Johnny...not so much for their cooking skills, more to do with entertainment value! And finally, a heads up for Thursday 15th March...I may be off line for a few hours, possibly the whole day. Broadband in our area is being upgraded to fibre optic (FTTP for those what know about these things). With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx PS to FB: Do 'The All Stars' need exorcising? |

Keeping up with the prayers. The weather seems to have gone down hill in Southern England. In hampshire its cloudy and cold. Hope its a bit better where you are. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 14 Mar 12 - 01:51 PM Jane's Doctors have cleared her for flying...she is in the air as I write, returning to Dubai for a short break to see all her friends. There is a poignancy in that first sentence that touches me to the very core of my being...no more to be said for now, With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: maeve Date: 14 Mar 12 - 02:02 PM Good for Jane! I hope she sees all the friends she needs to see. Meanwhile back at the ranch... you two get some rest as you touch base with the rest of your world. Maeve |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: fat B****rd Date: 14 Mar 12 - 04:19 PM Good news. Thank you, Nigel. As regards the All Stars they'll get plenty of exorcise trying to keep up with the frantic rugs being cut. Best as always Charlie fB |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Janie Date: 14 Mar 12 - 10:30 PM Gonna cut and paste something that many consider a cliche because it is so often repeated. Familiarity may breed contempt. We forget to really tune in and hear the wisdom. One day at a time There are two days in every week about which we should not worry - two days that should be kept free from fear and apprehension. One of these days is yesterday with its mistakes and cares, faults and blunders, aches and pains. Yesterday has passed forever beyond our control. All the money in the world cannot bring back yesterday. We cannot undo a single act we performed. We cannot erase a single word we said. Yesterday is gone! The other day we should not worry about is tomorrow. Tomorrow's sun will rise, whether in splendor or behind a mask of clouds. Until it does, we have no stake in tomorrow. It is yet unborn. This leaves only one day - Today. It is when we add the burdens of two eternities - yesterday and tomorrow that we break down. It is not necessarily the experience of today that disturbs one's peace of mind. It is often the bitterness for something that happened yesterday and the dread of what tomorrow may bring. Let us therefore live one day at a time. Author Unknown Nigel, you can dance like Fred Astaire! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 15 Mar 12 - 03:59 AM My Dear Janie...thank you very much for the Words of Wisdom, I haven't actually seen them before...beautifully written & your timing is spot on. The Leo Sayer track brings back many happy memories from times past...I'm still not entirely convinced it would help me to dance like anyone, let alone Fred Astaire! With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: katlaughing Date: 15 Mar 12 - 11:03 AM Janie, thanks from me, too. I'd not read those. I can dance was great! Here's to Jane having a good and safe time with her friends. |

Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 15 Mar 12 - 11:31 PM I think it is wonderful that the doctors decided Jane is well enough to fly! You wrote that this is a short break. When will she come back? |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 16 Mar 12 - 04:32 AM Jane will be away for ten days, she then has to return to the UK for her next chemo session. Jane, her husband & their four children have made many good & loyal friends during their time spent in Dubai. The next few days are going to be an emotional roller-coaster ride, knowing, as she does, that this might be the last time she sees many of them. Ann & I are thrilled that she received clearance to make the trip...we just hope she doesn't exhaust herself, there will be A LOT of socialising, parties, etc., etc.. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: gnu Date: 17 Mar 12 - 01:34 PM That just may help in dealing with the emotional strain of it all. Hope so. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 17 Mar 12 - 01:35 PM Ten days! Wonderful for her and her friends in Dubai. Let us know what you hear from her. In the meantime, I'm still praying! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: GUEST,999 Date: 18 Mar 12 - 06:26 AM "May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand." |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: banjoman Date: 18 Mar 12 - 08:18 AM Jane - have a really great break. You are all in our thoughts and prayers |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: fat B****rd Date: 18 Mar 12 - 10:12 AM Bruce, that's the only prayer I don't feel daft saying aloud. Nigel and Ann please accept more good thoughts from here in Scotland. Charlie. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 18 Mar 12 - 11:46 AM Our Dear Friends, what would we do without you & your Love, Thoughtfulness & Compassion. Your Wise words, Your Prayers...your Friendly & concerned chatter. We spoke to Jane on the phone today ( Mothering Sunday in the UK). She is enjoying every moment of her holiday, but finding it quite tiring...resting, sitting still or even sleeping during the day was anathema to Jane...now she is having to learn how to re-prioritise on what she expends her energy. Gnu, you might just be right. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 18 Mar 12 - 12:43 PM I'm glad to read that she is learning early in her trip that she needs to take it easy. Praying! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 19 Mar 12 - 08:37 AM 'Taking it easy' is something of a new experience for Jane! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 19 Mar 12 - 02:26 PM The piece of music I'm presently composing, working title: 'The Rainbow Crew' is approaching the 100 bar mark. That's about 4 minutes at the current tempo. Judging by the way it's developing, I think I'm approaching the mid-point. Another week or so should see the essential composing finished. After that it's all down to detailed editing, mixing & a final 'polish'. Other working titles have included 'The Ship/Voyage of Hope'. If you have any suggestions for a title, do let me know. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 19 Mar 12 - 03:40 PM Ooo! You are making progress! |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: GUEST,999 Date: 19 Mar 12 - 05:14 PM Bless ya, Nigel. Make it perfect as you can. Music says things words don't. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 20 Mar 12 - 06:14 AM Yes, CL, the piece is coming together nicely. I've learned over the years that when you listen to what you're working on the next day (and the days after that) & it still sounds ok, then it probably is ok...so far, I'm in that happy position. My challenge now is to introduce some new material (whilst not losing sight of what already exists) to move the whole thing forward & then 'weave' all the themes together as the ending approaches. Bruce...rest assured, this piece will be as good as I can make it. 'Perfect'...I doubt it, but 'striving for perfection' can be a great motivator! 'Music says things words don't'. I love the written word, but as you so rightly say, there are times when Words have to step aside & allow Music to 'say' what needs to be said. A little update on Jane in Dubai. She's getting round to see all her friends, but in the company of one of her closest friends who travelled from the UK with her, in the role of a benevolent 'chaperone'. Jane is getting the rest & nourishment she needs, whilst still fulfilling her social calendar. She returns to London at the end of this week. Leaving her friends & Dubai behind is going to be particularly tough. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: ChanteyLass Date: 20 Mar 12 - 09:26 PM I am glad she has a close friend with her and that she is getting rest and nourishment. You must be looking forward to seeing her. |
Subject: RE: BS: Healing thoughts & prayers please From: Nigel Paterson Date: 21 Mar 12 - 05:46 AM Yes, CL we are. Sunday lunch is booked, although we don't know where...hope it's the same place we went to last time. The location right beside the river was terrific & the food wasn't bad either! It's a beautiful Spring day in London right now...if we get the same weather next Sunday, a short walk beside the river is definitely on the cards. With Love, Nigel & Ann xxxxxxxxx |
