We're running a session...hopefully the first of many...in the Turk's Head in Donisthorpe (near Ashby de la Zouch) on December 16th. Who's coming??

Love Lynne

What a pity! Well let's hope you can get to future ones...if there are any! We're hoping to start a folk club locally in the near future, perhaps we can book Isambarde?

See you tonight!

If those are the things people would like to do, then yes, all or any of these things. But since this is under the 'music' section, it will quite likely be a session of music!

The basic idea is a music session where everyone joins in on instruments, but songs and singing will be welcomed too. Since this is the first (but hopefully not the last) of these that we are running, it really depends on who turns up and what they want to do. We participated in the session in the little bar at the White Swan at Bedworth on the weekend and it was really great...very enjoyable, comfortable, not too daunting for beginners to join in....we would quite like it to be something like that.

I think the answer is....turn up and make it what you want it to be. (Within reason of course!)

Love Lynne

Well, it didn't start well, despite finding my way to Donithorpe I came across the Masons Arms.... wrong one, so using my homing instinct I drove off in the wrong direction.
Accosting some friendly natives, I was soon kerb-crawling around the wonderful traffic calming system and found the Turk's Head. Very carelessly someone had left it in a pub car park , probably the same someone who had left those mason's arms at the cross-roads. Minutes later, I entered the public bar, then it went downhill, as there was a widescreen telly showing some men kicking a round object about a field for no particular reason. I persevered though, ordered a pintmade ... and before I could pay, thee came the sound of clapping from the 'other' bar, unseen by me. So I asked the hostelier to kindly carry it through to the other side , where I would meet him.. having said this , I rushed outside of the pub to where my honed instincts said there would be a door... and there was... a locked door..! Making my way back into the public bar, I met the hostelier who had com out to fetch me, and show me the secret entance to the lounge bar hidden behind the coat rack..!
In that the other realm sat Lynn holding court, squirming about every 30 seconds in order to retrieve her disceet battery powered humming companion, yes, her mobile phone, and generally bouncing off the four walls like she was in a giat pin-ball machine. Soon I discovered the jewel of the nile basking in the glow of the bar lights, Old Rosie... I had found sanctuary.. real cider!!!
Oh yeah, there was some singing and .. and playing of instruments and stuff ..
got home about 1.30am ..(I went North instead of south)..excellent nonetheless!

My problem, now, is to try and work out who everyone was. ie fitting real people to all these mudcat aliases. Despite MuddleC's lack of directional sense (I found the lounge bar by trial and error), the evening went very well - particularly once the mob from Hull turned up and doubled our numbers in one go.

PS What do you mean by that Skip? That it was rock bottom and couldn't get any lower??

We had the same problem as Muddle C. Trying to get to an unknown place in the dark so you can't see the road map unless you stop and where the street signs are few and far between....

However, the journey was worth it for a good evening of music and song and the chance to meet even more Mudcatters.

It was so good to meet new faces and make reacquaintance with known friends. We even had a link up to the Mudchat for a while, until Skipjack's phone ran out of oomph, and were able to let CapriUni and Open Mike know what was going on.

Maine is going to seem soooo quiet after all this (must get some sessions organised...)

If the prospect of folk club ever gets off the ground we`d really like to play there. We STILL get ignored by most of our local promoters / clubs in the Derby / Burton area dispite our on-going national "success". Please contact us via our website should you fancy a bit of guitar nonsense...www.petesmithjohnbuckley.co.uk Merry Xmas.

Trouble with starting a folk club is the apathy of the locals in this part of the world. Despite the fact that I publicised our session around the area, we wouldn't actually have had one if it hadn't been for the influx of Mudcatters from Hull, Shanghai and the USA! We can't really depend on that to keep a regular folk club going! One of the only three locals other than us who turned up to play was the person with whom we are planning to start a club. I've had offers from several people to guest at the club if it gets off the ground, so now all we need is a venue and some sort of certainty of an audience! Not much to ask?

I enjoyed meself, me. First evening since Lent I haven't been shitfaced, and actually remembered last night's fun. And I got to sleep on Kate who is Katherine, with only some joists between us.

Lovely meeting Jacqui and Kendall, and Shanghai Frank (who seemed far too well socially able to be a Mudcatter), Donisthorpe Celtic (Frank two), the very lovely Rachel, who promised me she wouldn't get drawn into this place, and MuddleC, who is Rob and not Tim.

Best of all was meeting Ted and Lynne, whom made it happen, and looked lovely in their matching flashing nipples. Who was that brown man in the empire-buiders? I liked him, 'cause he reckoned I was better value than that attention-seeking violinist fellow. Also, it was nice to meet Shady Lady, who is very beautiful and had the biggest hair there.

One made it to bed at 2am, happier for being a lot closer to the Sables Award for the most 'catters eyeballed.

The guy in the "Empire Builders" was George - a local character. I have yet to see him in anything other than shorts, even in the depths of deepest darkest winter... It may be a cultural desert, but there are some spots of eccentricity around!

Don't do it Cally! I only dropped in on the mudcatters meet at Bedworth Folk Fest cos I happened to see the word 'mudcat' on the programme but didn't know/hadn't been part of the vast criminal empire that MBSLynne presides over...
it was just like walking in on the Artful Dodger et al in Fagins Garrett........ Lynne a.k.a 'Nancy'

MuddleC who is Tim not Rob

willing to be silly and assist if needed

(damn... last time I volunteered I spent ten years in the Royal Navy)

Great to see you on here Rachel!! Skip's psychology worked then!

So, ok, we've got a few memebers for the new folk club but we need more.....and somewhere to have it. Well it's inspiring me to make a bit of effort and *sigh*, go and do a pub crawl of Ashby to find a suitable venue. Oh dear, it's all work......

Timnotrob, does this mean you will patronise our wonderful club then?

And next time we run a session I think we'll just call it a Mudgather and be done with it!!
