I'm just taking a page from my own family history. When my sons were younger we had a birthday week. Each day of the week, we did something special... a favorite meal.. a movie, a short day trip...
My Mother celebrates a MINIMUM of one week. This year, because she is slowing down, she only had two birthday parties instead of her usual three. If it's good enough for my family, why not Art? I figure this way, by the time Art's birthday rolls around, we'll have had a chance to wish him a Happy birthday, not a "Sorry-I-missed-your birthday-again birthday wish.

I think what this is is that Art is getting his "just deserts" That's not a bad idea for a birthday, either.

That posted automatically...while I was in the middle of a sentence. Rather strange. Thanks to Jerry and to all of you!! That's very nice indeed. It is my birthday on Sturday---July 9th.---So we have put the card (birthday) before the hearse---so to speak. It may be prophetic if I die before then. ;-) But no matter.-----That's life!!

As a birthday present, but he doesn't actually realize it yet, an old friend, who shall remain anonymous for now, will be doing a short concert at the La Salle, Illinois Public Library tonight---at 6:30. La Salle is our twin city here in Peru, Illinois. We are generally referred to as "La Salle-Peru" by those outside the area or those in Chicago. So I plan to ride my electric scooter over there to see his show---and surprise him.-------That's how I get around now, what with cabs quitting here at six PM. Makes it hard to go to a movie.------- BUT I don't want any of you to tell him that I will be at his concert --- so I can't tell you, yet, who it is. But I'll be back tomorrow to tell you about it.

Alba, I know what it is---and I'm looking forward to hearing you.

We get VERY FEW musicians from our folk scene finding gigs here. Andy Cohen's great concert last month at the Princeton, Illinois coffeehouse, 30 miles west of here, was a rare tradition-oriented treat. Very few folks in these parts realize I was a folksinger back in the last century--or what it even meant to be one o' those. ----------

So, thanks to all of you again!! I'll be back tomorrow...

First I hope you have a great time meeting whoever it is and rehashing old times. That's a great present in and of itself!

While you are fond of saying "the older I get, the better I was," I think it's important to remember that you're not really getting older........Hell man, you're already old!

When I first came to the 'Cat seven years ago I saw right away that you were the man and I felt like a young gunslinger trying to learn from the pro.....and I did. For instance I learned you could tell the same story or joke 819 times and almost no one would notice. Then I think you also proved to me through your own bad experience that irony and sarcasm are often completely wasted. Hence, for all the wonderful things you've posted here, you will still be known as the man who started The Great Condom Thread!

Well, we are in the middle of a bad drought here, but for three minutes yesterday, we had a real DELUGE! Then it quit---and dried up --- so I was able to get out and scooter over to hear Mark Dvorak do a great multi-generational show. And we got to chew the fat some afterwards as well.

But it wasn't a surprise!! He'd been warned I was coming by someone who saw this thread---by someone (Joann Murdock -- wife of Lee maybe) who KNEW that Mark was doing a gig in La Salle last night. I do suspect she was his agent for this job. No fair at all!!!!! But that's o.k.

For those of you who don't know, Mark is one quarter of the quartet Weavermania----but he does all sorts of exceptional solo music. It's been a treat to watch him fall in love with folk music when he was young, and then learn to do it so beautifully and so "right on". He's a folksinger -- the real article -- like Michael Cooney and Jean Titchie, Sam Hinton and Pete.---Leadbelly and Big Bill Broonzy songs done by Mr. D. are great favorites of mine.

And the B-day isn't until tomorrow. Thanks to Jerry and all of you for making this a pretty special week.
