Hey Bunahabhainn, you clearly didn't read me earlier post! :-)
Lincolnshire Sausage, Fried Egg, Grilled Mushrooms, Brown Sauce, Thick Sliced White Bread.
Bliss.

loose the brown sauce (or substitute for Wow-Wow sauce) and that sounds like a tasty sandwich, as long as the egg isn't runny!

Got to be runny, Crystal - otherwise how would I save a bit in my beard for later? :-) :-)

If you don't like brown, try Heinz Ketchup or, the best of all - Lea & Perrins Worcestershire and Tomato Sauce. Yeeeee-Ha!

I invented this one yesterday, and I'm very pleased with the way it turned out...

potato-lentil burgers (finely grated raw potato, cooked lentils [mashed], grated onion, salt, and a bit of tapioca flour, mixed thorougly, then fried into burgers)

...on sprouted whole grain sourdough bread, with lettuce and ketchup.

And you, Carol, seem to have a slightly strange imagination; which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as I think you've imagined something I'll be tempted to try. Pearl tapioca for pudding is a regular shelf item, but is tapioca flour generally available?

I think Carol might be thinking of Semolina.

Because of food allergies (and an aversion to eating meat), I have to use my imagination quite a lot in order to get enough protein in my diet. I would LOVE to be able to eat a fried egg and cheese sandwich, or a fried tofu sandwich, or a grilled cheese sandwich with tomato bisque soup on the side, or any number of other sandwiches that involve eggs, cheese, and/or soy products. But that's not possible for me at this time.

In my potato-lentil burgers, the potato and tapioca flour are used as binding agents for the lentils (in place of eggs). Luckily for me, the potatoes taste really good in these burgers. I get tapioca flour in bulk from one of the local natural food stores.

No, not semolina, tapioca. It's used as a thickening and binding agent, and has similar properties to corn starch, to which I am allergic. Arrowroot powder can be used in this way also, but right now I'm a bit more happy with the tapioca flour than with the arrowroot powder. I find that arrowroot powder has a stronger taste than tapioca flour.

A thickening agent? Gee, I've found that if you don't wash the pan eventually you'll have a built-in thickening agent.

Carol, have you ever tried various dhal recipes?

I probably have, but not in sandwiches. Do you have any good ones?

re: one of your previous posts, I also eat a lot of hummus of various sorts on pita bread. It's one of my favorites, but I don't really consider it a sandwich the way I eat it. I tend to spread the hummus on top rather than inside.

Ah, well you can eat humus on top, inside, or or wipe bits of it off a plate with the pita.
Dhal's pretty easy to make and adapt for your own preference. Basically, it's seasoned lentil mash. I know sounds bland, but it can be as simple or as fancy as you like. Prime source of protein for millions of people.

Thanks, Le Scaramouche. Maybe I should re-name my burgers "potato-dhal burgers".
