Just for a kick I had Mapquest tell me how to get from French Lick to Climax. It was just as I suspected. From French Lick, you make your way east to 69(That's I-69, 'Spaw, you dirty old man) and then North to get to Climax. Makes perfect sense to me........LOL

I dunno' Mick....that does sound good, but maybe a southern detour would work out nicely. Down through Louisville and across to Cincy, then up. That way you could stop at Big Bone Lick just south of Cincinnati. Must be a popular spot because there is a State Park there......probably a REAL interesting nature walk!

The Colorado highway dept. spent years replacing road signs that said "CLIMAX"..(kids would steal them for their dorm rooms)not sure what they finally came up with...we used to joke about having to get to Climax by way of 'Fairplay'....

Caroline and I will be singing (and hawking our wares) at the Adirondack Folk Music Festival on Sunday, August 13 - along with a bunch of fine performers like Chris Shaw and Dan Berggren, John Kirk, etc. I mention this because the festival is held in Schroon Lake, NY (near Lake George). I assume that's past tense. Or perhaps it's somewhere near Peen Lake, a thing campers are told not to do.

Well Sandy, I think the Canadians are pretty straightforward on that subject.......I remember travelling through on vaction at about age 12 and getting a laugh out of Lake Nipissing. It was Still pretty cold in early June and I don't think I could have if I tried.

There's also a Climax, Ga, just up the road from Commerce and Intercourse. My favorite, though, is the wide spot in the road called "Two Egg" in the FL panhandle. On a sadder note, the US Geological survey has an obscure office that concerns itself with place names. Officially, they seek to stamp out the great evil of duplication and resultant confusion, but they are also accused censorship and removal of risque place names.

There's a Thai restaurant in San Francisco called "Phuket." Used to be a store in Oakland called "Linoleum Dicks." I always thought their slogan should have been "You just can't lick Linoleum Dicks."

Whattaya say we form a Mudcat band, go on tour, hit all those places mentioned so we can make a Mudcat 2000 Tour T-shirt with the place names on the back? "Mudcatters rock Aunt Mary's Bottom, Flush, Climax, Firey Gizzard...."
