I think I'll send you a kitchen sink!
Maybe I'll make you a skating rink!
For beginnings, I'll give you this Fairy link!
I'll see you later little one! You be a good girl or you'll get a pink sink with a skating rink.

Sorry- even Santa couldn't grant it.

But I love regional goodies and music. And dark chocolate.

And it gets really cold and dark here in the northlands.

Surprise me!

Sorry, Mooman -- the ol' Claus has been a bit too stretched to spend much time at Mudcat, so this hinteroony hint fest is posted much later than intended. (I suppose that fact in itself is a bit of a hint, if only by process of elimination.) I haven't even had much time to enjoy the glorious fall foliage except in the car driving to and from work. (I guess that's a geographical hint.)

But I HAVE had time to plan and start to accumulate the items for your Yule-tide tuck box. I might even get it shipped out before Hallowe'en. (Is my placement of the apostrophe a hint? Who knows.) Alas, the package won't include any of the lab glass acquired from Santa's ex-spouse (and that's not as transparent a hint about my gender as it could have been); I found a home for most of that cubic-footage a few years ago (but kept one large beaker for a non-lab purpose).

That's waaay too many hints, I think -- but I may not have much time to post any others and I didn't want you to think you were forgotten.

Mooman's Secretive Claus

Oh wonderful Delvene, thanks. In answer to your question, yes I've been good - just don't make any rhymes about Kentucky (unless it's lucky.) If you're who I think you are (and I mistakenly thought it was you last year too) you are a very good singer and very quick witted.

I've just returned from a trip and am quite nostalgic for pictures. Take one of your land or sea or sunset for me today - or just save a postcard. I have a picture in mind, but surprise me!

Gibson and Camp: At The Gate Of Horn.

Either the classic or the revival.

Dick Greenhaus carries both.

And SS...about that you-know-what...I can explain. Really. It wasn't at all what it looked like.

Dear LF:

Not having heard squat from you, and really needing guidance in our selection of your Great Gift, we were wondering if you would mind answering the following questions. They will provide us with a psychological profile that will ensure that you get what you would truly like.

1. Do you feel that Morris Dancers are eccentric, or merely unusual?

2. Would you rather visit Whitechapel in 1880, East Anglia in 1375, or Penzance anytime?

3. What is your favourite unreal number?

4. Which goes on first: your shoes, your trousers, or your hat?

5. Complete this sentence: When I am filled with joy and delighted with being alive, I will correct the problem by_____________________.

6. My favourite meal is ____________________________________________.

7. True or False (choose one): I would rather play a digaredoo than a flautophone.

8. Rank this statement from 1 (being the lowest) to 5 (being the highest). Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, is one hot momma.

9. Please answer YES or NO.

10. Compare and contrast the epic hero in Byron's Childe Harold with Alyosha Karamazov. Discuss whether one or the other is an Absurdist Hero, making significant reference to El Cid, William Rufus, the Defence of Rourke's Drift, Svengali, Sisyphus, Hector, and the Red Branch Cycle. Be certain to keep your discussion within the Animistic-Zoroastrian context inherent in Mithriac literature. You have ten (10) minutes.

It's oft struck me what a varry slight difference ther is between a wise man and a fooil; one aims at summat an' hits it – tother aims at summat an' misses it; an' aw have known th' time when th' chap 'at's missed has been worth a dozen sich like as him 'at's hit. But th' world generally sets 'em daan to be wise men 'at happen to be lucky men, an' get hold o' lots o' brass. An' ha monny brains a chap has, if he can't spooart a pair o' kid gloves an' a daycent hat, he mun niver hope for owt better nor to tak his place amang th' fooils. Aw've monny a time thowt when aw've heared fowk settin a chap daan as a fooil; – talk prattley – may be if he wor weighed up he's a better man nor yo this minit; yo connot tell all 'at he may have had to struggle wi' –

You managed very well for two years to keep us happily plotting and planning, so this will be a considerable challenge, to surprise you. Never fear! Just saw this in the Globe and Mail and thought it would be useful info for SOME Secret Santas ...

No more letters to 'Grandma'

Washington — Most mail to Canada must bear the complete name and address of both sender and recipient or it will not be allowed into the country, the U.S. Postal Service said Wednesday.

The tighter addressing requirements announced for people mailing packages in the United States are in response to increased border security demands.

Even such sender or recipient identifications as "Grandma" or "Aunt Ruth" can result in mail's being rejected, the agency said.

All mail, except post cards, that does not show the complete name and address of sender and recipient – in Roman letters and Arabic numerals – is being denied entry.

Canada Post spokesman John Caines said that Canada Customs has become increasingly vigilant about enforcing the requirement that all international mail have a complete address for both the sender and recipient.

U.S. postal officials said addresses on mail to Canada should be printed in ink or typewritten in capital letters, and the last line of the address must show only CANADA if there is no postal code included.

If the postal code appear, mailing requirements allow that to appear as the last line of the address.

Mailers must also fill out customs forms specifically identifying the contents of parcels. General descriptions such as "gift" or "present" are no longer acceptable.

So ... bah humbug!

sian, west wales
(which won't be allowed, I guess!)

Mr. Leadfingers, you need a clew as to who I am and where I am. So here's a hint in a piece of classical verse:

I'm not a butcher
I'm not a Yid
Nor yet a foriegn skipper.
But I'm your own light-hearted fiend,
Yours Truly,
Not Jack The Ripper.
