Subject: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Feb 17 - 05:39 PM On March 15, 44 BCE, the Senators of Rome let Julius Caesar know how they felt about him. A very nice nun sent me this letter: THE IDES OF TRUMP ON MARCH 15TH, 2017 MAIL THE WHITE HOUSE A POSTCARD THAT PUBLICLY EXPRESSES OUR VOCAL OPPOSITION TO ACTIONS OF THE NEW PRESIDENT.. We will strive to show the man, the media, and the politicians how vast our numbers are and we will bury the White House post office . Each of us — every protester from every march, each Congress calling citizen, every boycotter, volunteer, donor, and petition signer — will write a single postcard and put them all in the mail on the same day, March 15th, 2017. -Hank Aaron currently holds the record for fan mail, having received 900,000 pieces in a year. We're setting a new record: over a million pieces in a day. So sharpen your wit, unsheathe your writing implements, and write from the heart. All of our issues — DAPL, women's rights, racial discrimination, religious freedom, immigration, economic security, education, the environment, conflicts of interest, the existence of facts — can and should find common cause. That cause is to make it irrefutable that the president's claim of wide support is a farce. How to participate: 1. Write one postcard. Write a dozen! Create your own cards, buy them, share them, it doesn't matter as long as you write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump on them somewhere. 2. If possible, take a picture of your cards and post them on social media (tagged with #TheIdesOfTrump or #TheIdes, please). This will help us verify our numbers. 3. Spread the word! Everyone on Earth can let Washington know their opinion of the President. They can't build a wall high enough to stop the mail. 4. Then, on March 15th, mail your cards to: The President The White House 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW Washington, DC 20500 WHEN DO WE MAIL OUR POSTCARDS? We ask everyone to mail their postcards on the same day — March 15, 2017. They will arrive in a wave over the next days and weeks. WHICH POSTCARD AND/OR MESSAGE SHOULD I USE? We leave that up to you. This event is INCLUSIVE. We want everyone — regardless of which issue or issues concerns them most — to be part of this postcard campaign. Some will send pink postcards, others will focus on immigration, or environment, or any number of other issues that are ALL important. We invite people to write personal messages, by hand, from the heart. While mass-produced or computer-produced postcards are also welcome, handwritten cards accentuate the number of people behind this campaign. Please DO write #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump somewhere on each of your postcards, If you can, take a photograph of it, and post the picture to social media. Please DO NOT write or depict anything violent or encouraging of violence. (e.g., maybe we shouldn't mention what happened to Caesar..... -Joe-) SHOULDN'T WE PICK ONE ISSUE TO WRITE ABOUT? While everyone writing about one cause would certainly send a more concentrated message, the goal of this campaign is to bring people together in opposition, regardless of which cause they feel is most important. All over the world, people are expressing grave concerns about the directions in which this administration is taking America and the planet. We want all of those people to be part of The Ides of Trump. WHO'S BEHIND THIS EFFORT? Someone had the idea and others stepped up to help, but millions of postcards need to be written by millions of people, or none of it matters. WHAT IS THE POSTCARD COST? Use one first class mail stamp DO I NEED TO INCLUDE A RETURN ADDRESS? No. Postcards do not require a return address. We do not recommend including your actual return address. In other words, if you're thinking of getting a very nice nun mad, think twice.... What will YOU write on your postcard? SPQR |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Joe Offer Date: 23 Feb 17 - 05:44 PM Dear Mr. Trump, I know a number of Mexican immigrants who are good parents, good members of our community, and very hard-working people. Now they're afraid that they or their friends or relatives are going to be deported. Many are afraid to go to church on Sunday, or to any gatherings of Spanish-speaking people. Even if they are citizens, they're afraid they won't be able to prove their citizenship when ICE comes. Why are you doing this to these nice people? -Joe Offer- ICE - Immigration and Customs Enforcement |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 23 Feb 17 - 06:10 PM I won't be asking questions. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 23 Feb 17 - 06:44 PM That won't do, Joe, I'm afraid. You used a lot of words that are far too long for Donald Trump. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 23 Feb 17 - 07:39 PM Joe, this idea has an element of 'Mr. Smith goes to Washington'. Here is the Achilles heel. It can all be undone with a single Twitter lie or bogus postcards read by Spicer. The fix : For every single postcard sent to Trump a copy of the card must be sent to the Office of Accountability. But better yet... SEND it to Trump IN CARE OF (c/o) the GAO. (Comptroller General) That way it will be counted and scrutinized by a very trustworthy Agency before they are trucked over to the White House. If I were you I would give the GAO a heads up and change over to the strategy above as soon as possible. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 23 Feb 17 - 07:58 PM If sent to Trump c/o General of GAO Washington DC There is room for a media event showing the trucks being loaded for the trip down Pennsylvania Ave. A change like this is better all the way around. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 23 Feb 17 - 09:36 PM Good one, Joe. I've been writing regular postcards to an elderly friend (she loved getting the mail every day) but she passed away recently. I have postcards and stamps to dedicate to this cause. If you send a large postcard (because you have lots of topics to mention) then it should get a regular first class postage stamp. I often put letters to go on the mailbox outside the front door because the postal carrier comes early and they won't be out there long. A photo of the card held to the mailbox by two clothes pins will go up on Instagram and other accounts on the appointed day. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 23 Feb 17 - 09:47 PM Spread widely, via facebook. I gave credit to your nun friend, though you didn't say if she wrote it or not. :) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Joe Offer Date: 24 Feb 17 - 12:51 AM Nope. I doubt that she wrote it, but she's one who could have. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: meself Date: 24 Feb 17 - 01:11 AM I don't know, Joe - maybe I'm a bit prissy, but I find the obvious reference to assassination a little troubling - not least, because it hands the Trumpettes something to make an issue of .... |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 24 Feb 17 - 05:58 AM As you know due to the many actual Anthrax attacks via mail, letters going to the White house and other government officials spend days at a Maryland facility being tested before actual delivery adding more time to arrival than you may expect. In fact for security reasons it is possible nothing will arrive at the White House proper. Moving up the date would be advised. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 24 Feb 17 - 06:10 AM Thinking along these lines it seems to me all these problems would be avoided if sent in care of the Washington Post. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Greg F. Date: 24 Feb 17 - 10:05 AM A waste of time. Trump won't care if he gets a pile of postcards large enough to bury the Trump Tower - he's too full of himself as well as being full of s**t. "In his heart, he knows he's right". Now, a mountailn of postcards sent to the gutless wonders of Republican senators and representitives MIGHT have some effect in getting them to stand up to the demented toddler in the White House. But I doubt it. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 24 Feb 17 - 10:35 AM If the idea is to get media attention then sending them to the Washington Post sounds good to me. I praise the post card idea and Joe for letting us know. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Greg F. Date: 24 Feb 17 - 10:47 AM If the idea is to get media attention And what will media attention accomplish, pray? The real media ( non-Briebart et. al.) already know that the majority of U.S. citizens abhor the toddler in the Whie House & his cronies & their policies. What benefit will yet another dog-bites-man story produce? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 24 Feb 17 - 02:52 PM Oh ye of little faith. Mass expression is not as intuitive as you think. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Greg F. Date: 24 Feb 17 - 05:21 PM We'll see about that in due course. And faith doesn't come into it. "He who lives on hope dies of starvation" -Yiddish proverb. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 24 Feb 17 - 08:54 PM Work and pray live on hay They'll be pie in the sky when you die. That's a lie You are tough. I'm just saying you may not be as skeptical as you claim. |

Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Jim Carroll Date: 25 Feb 17 - 08:07 AM It seems that the Sister's letter is too little too late - the Trump Storekeepers have now gone viral by banning numerous media outlets, including CNN, BBC and The New York Times from the White House Press Conference Free speech now seems a thing of the past in the U.S. - I don't think petitions and protests are going to get a look-in Let's hope the disease doesn't spread to his supporters in Britain and elsewhere Jim Carroll |

Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: gnu Date: 25 Feb 17 - 10:55 AM I'm in. Canuckistan has 1/10th the population of the USA but I dare say, there will be a fair few postcards from the Great White Frozen. I hope they pour in from all over the world. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stu Date: 25 Feb 17 - 11:01 AM "Let's hope the disease doesn't spread to his supporters in Britain and elsewhere" Actually, it spread from here to there. Alex Salmond banned the Telegraph from one of his pressers years ago. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: akenaton Date: 25 Feb 17 - 05:04 PM This thread really amuses me, do you actually think the Media act in your interests? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Feb 17 - 05:37 PM Get lost. You have nothing to contribute, you're here to troll. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 25 Feb 17 - 06:21 PM Yep. Seconded. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Greg F. Date: 25 Feb 17 - 06:35 PM Thirded. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Feb 17 - 07:09 PM Trump, or his gang, have responded to protests and legal challenges. It's all on Twitter, followed by the staff "restatment" of what he really meant to say. The restatement is actually appearing when he had to back off of whatever lame-brained thing he was complaining about and someone else explains it because Trump will never apologize for anything. Ever. So get those postcards ready, I and I will be commenting on the lack of press access on mine. (You saw that he backed out of the Correspondent's Dinner - after his recent behavior even he can see that it won't turn out well.) |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: akenaton Date: 26 Feb 17 - 03:23 AM It just seems such an undemocratic idea Acme, I suppose the end game is to motivate people to make the country ungovernable? Imagine if UK residents tried to swamp the government because they lost the EU referendum......There is a word for trying to subvert a democratically elected government, I suppose you know that word, you and others on the left have used it often enough in other circumstances. There is another word beginning with H and ending with y which applies to those who do not practice what they preach. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Jim Carroll Date: 26 Feb 17 - 04:55 AM "There is a word for trying to subvert a democratically elected government," Trumps entourage was not elected Democratically (Russin intervention is not democratic) and his behaviour in power is getting less and less democratic by the minute. Its latest stunt is to stifle information by only allowing those who will present his behaviour favourably into press conferences. Suppression of information is a basic tool of all Fascist regimes - control and destruction of State institutions such as Justice, security and law and order are others. He has had that in his sights for some time now. Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Jim Carroll Date: 26 Feb 17 - 05:29 AM By the way Ake "do you actually think the Media act in your interests?" The media serves its own interests, which range from selling newspapers to supplying information to the public - and all the bits between It is varied in its value, but without it would to allow it to be controlled by a demagogue is unthinkable - that is what is beginning to happen at the hands of the Trump regime. This apparently suits your agenda What do you propose as an alternative? I will be very surprised if you respond to this - I suppose it doesn't come under your take on 'freedom of information' Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 26 Feb 17 - 05:53 AM Another reason he's backed out of the Correspondents' Dinner is that he sees it as "establishment" and will be able to say by not showing up that he's not "establishment." A billionaire who's made his money by being a thoroughgoing member of the snout-in-trough end of capitalism wants us to think he's not "establishment." I should coco! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Hrothgar Date: 26 Feb 17 - 06:16 AM Don't use more than 140 characters. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Feb 17 - 10:15 AM Ake, you're off the rails in trying to defend the piece of shit who is rambling around the White House at night, watching TV and tweeting, it's pathetic. Seriously. You need to back off and just go do something else. Joe started a thread that suggests a democratic act to show our disdain for the man and his puppet masters who are in power right now. Yet you suggest postcards are treasonous? REALLY? I have concerns about your health at this point. Is this the only way for you to get attention, by continuing to start fights with others? You know this was a trick the old mudcat troll used. He used the nasty politics of the BNP and EDL to stir up others and give himself plenty of angry targets to pick on. You're doing the same with the Alt right component of the GOP. You stalk members and try to keep those fights going. You need to get counselling: you don't contribute here, it's a crutch instead of medical help. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: akenaton Date: 26 Feb 17 - 01:00 PM By God, you have some balls to call me mentally ill on this forum Acme, just look around you at the other specimens. The ranters, the stalkers and people who move off topic to get threads closed. I try to give reasoned arguments without abusing any member as Fascist, Racist, Bigot. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Feb 17 - 01:15 PM So you've figured out the definition of "demagogue." Big deal. You're still doing exactly what I described. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Jim Carroll Date: 26 Feb 17 - 01:41 PM "I try to give reasoned arguments without abusing any member as Fascist, Racist, Bigot" Because you have no grounds to with anybody Ake If the cap fits.... Haven't you just propoese that Trum should have the right to censor the press - or was that my imagination!!! Jim Carroll |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 26 Feb 17 - 01:58 PM I can't believe how this thread has been derailed. Bloody ridiculous. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Mr Red Date: 26 Feb 17 - 06:03 PM Fer Christ's sake ignore the troll. Don't talk to him. Address the issues, don't use his name, don't answer his drivel directly. It will wind him up and he won't have the same pleasure. He has the luxury of a conduit for his voice, leave him to metaphorically wank into the wind. We don't have to watch. All he wants is to do is stir. Don't give him the spurtle. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 26 Feb 17 - 06:15 PM It is certainly evident that one large section here has no tolerance for different opinions , and expresses its own opinions with venom and foul abuse. Funny thing is they want to censure alternative views......which seems to be the very thing they are themselves protesting ! |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Greg F. Date: 26 Feb 17 - 06:27 PM Pete, its not "different opinions" and "alternative views"- its "alternative facts" (i.e. outright lies) and bullshhit and xenophobia and racism and un-Constitutional actions & decrees. And you're quite confused, or possibly simply ignorant of the actual situation in the U.S. Educate yourself. Until then, time to say good-night. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 26 Feb 17 - 07:07 PM I thought about it more and Greg is right. The culture of protest does not overcome society. It does not overcome a society of racism hate , xenophobia, genetically different people or the billionaire class and their wannabes. Four score years of right wing conditioning on the media of radio,TV,church and internet with a trillion dollar price tag does not evaporate quickly. But we must protest and show goodness has a powerful voice whether it is acknowledged or not. surprising things happen. Pete, newsflash there are more sides than one. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 26 Feb 17 - 07:37 PM WHAT ARE WE AFRAID OF ????????????????? No one here mentions it by the words, arrest, imprisonment, murder. Instead we say fascist or ideological words. We all know many countries have inherited dictatorial rule. Germany in the 30's Syria Iraq Egypt Chile Japan Iran the list is endless throughout history. America was supposed to be different. People may say It Can't Happen Here. But it can. When protest is called a betrayal, when the press is banned when you become a revolutionary to stand up for the Construction and Trump attacks the protests as domestic terrorists who do not obey the president... Will Ake Pete and Bruce celebrate my arrest imprisonment and murder? Will they accept yours? Will they believe we had it coming? I will not answer for them. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Stilly River Sage Date: 26 Feb 17 - 08:40 PM Back to the postcards - I'm seeing people talking about printing their own with memes on cardstock. I'll probably simply send some of the regular ones I have here, of national park beauty spots (requesting that the parks not become drill sites for gas and oil). Don't forget to take photos and post them online and tag them with #TheIdes or #TheIdesOfTrump . Twitter and Instagram are easiest to search (the settings on facebook are so variable that you probably won't see as many results). |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: gillymor Date: 26 Feb 17 - 10:32 PM One of mine will read "Let's see those tax returns, Mr. President." |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Pete from seven stars link Date: 27 Feb 17 - 08:45 AM Quite right donuel " more sides than one ". " when the press is banned.." Are newspapers closed down ? Are they being told what stories to report or how to do so ? Or is it just that some of the press is not welcome because they might twist the news !? Not too sure it's the best course of action, but the protests seem exaggerated. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 27 Feb 17 - 09:15 AM Aside from the fact that it isn't just the press, let's look at how the press (and broadcast media) "twist" the news: They decide which news to give us and which news to withhold. They decide whether to have the news splattered all over the front page or to stick it on the bottom of page 17. They decide how to comment on the news, if at all. They decide how the news should be edited for consumption. They decide to what extent the news should be sensationalised. They decide on what kind of eye-catching headline to employ in order to draw you in. The more scurrilous of them decide to embed comment and bias in articles (remember "enemies of the people?" "Gotcha!" And "Up yours, Galtieri?") The press and broadcast media are intrinsically biased and selective. We get the press we deserve. Unless people treat the press with the scepticism it fully deserves and approaches it critically, they'll carry on getting away with lots. Almost four million people read the Mail every day. I have to conclude that they read it uncritically. They wouldn't buy it otherwise. I rest my case. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Steve Shaw Date: 27 Feb 17 - 09:16 AM Approach, eh? |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Donuel Date: 28 Feb 17 - 06:00 AM Trump is sniffing out a golden shower pf leaks. Some he orders, some he doesn't. If you hear every one is leaking you're in Washington. Urine leakland. |
Subject: RE: BS: The Ides of Trump From: Mr Red Date: 28 Feb 17 - 11:46 AM Me thinks 'tis first chinks of light dawning on the Ides: Former President George W.
