Subject: Lyr Add: I'M A STRANGER HERE (S Terry/B McGhee)
From: bobad
Date: 14 Jan 09 - 02:50 PM

I'm A Stranger Here

by Brownie McGhee / Sonny Terry

I'm a stranger here, just blow'd in your town
Oh, yes, I am, I'm a stranger here, just blow'd in your town
Well, because I'm a stranger, everybody wants to dog me 'round

I'm gonna write home to daddy to send me my railroad fare
Oh, yes, I am, I'm gonna write home to dad to send me my railroad fare
Oh, yes, I am, well, if he don't send it, I don't mind walkin' down

Sonny Terry, I'm goin' back home have to wear out 99 pair of shoes
Oh, yes, I am, Sonny, I'm goin' back home have to wear out 99 pair of shoes
Oh, yes, I am, when I get back there I won't have these old stranger blues
Let's walk together, boy

Well, I wonder why people treats the strangers so
Oh, Lordy Lord, well, I wonder why people treats the strangers so
Well, I ain't got no place I just go from door to door

You know, I'm a stranger here, just blowed in your town
Oh, yes, I am, well, I'm a stranger here, just blowed in your town
Oh, yes, I am, well, if I askin' for a favor, please don't turn me down

"I thought that winter and all the crap that comes with it would spark folks to get more active and look forward to the summer and create some lengthly conversations in this thread..."

I haven't posted much this time Adrien, because I'd just say:

Holy Batman, Robin!   You have already booked Bruce Murdoch,Ron Bankley, Penny Lang, Jason Lang (son,)Mike Regenstreif (Host of Songwriters' circle), John MacKenzie, Stormin Norman,Victor Courte, Crossing North, Kevin Harvey and Ken Posse, The Echo Hunters, Kitchen Party, Backwater Blues, Road Scholars...and now you say there are MORE surprises coming?

And here I am expecting to be fully embroiled in planting, harvesting, digging, potting, and so on on July. At least I can keep the thread bubbling to the top. You all are going to have a wonderful time!

Great line-up, Adrien!

Waiting for confirmation on two more acts. Should have the line up completed by the end of January. I was hoping to have it done by now but for reasons out of my control I was not able.

Well, Beer.... I am sure that after people get shovelled out and manage to get their dogs chipped off the hydrants, posting may pick up.

Kinda hard to imagine 30C, green grass, etc, when it's -30WC at noon on a sunny January day.... no skeeters here today, though.

Does anybody know if those of us from the U.S. are going to need passports to drive into Canada by the time of the festival?

A driver's license works getting in. I forgot my passport when I went to Toronto last month, and I got back to the US with the license. They've WANTED to make a passport mandatory for a while, without success.

Bobad is usually very good for this information Neil. I know for Canadians entering the U.S. by land a passport is required by January 31st. 2009 and I think I heard from the States to Canada it is sometimes in June but I am not sure.

From this site: http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1082.html

Entry into Canada is solely determined by Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) officials in accordance with Canadian law, see http://www.cbsa.gc.ca for details. Canadian law requires that all persons entering Canada must carry both proof of citizenship and identity. A valid U.S. passport or NEXUS card satisfies these requirements for U.S. citizens. If U.S. citizen travelers to Canada do not have a passport or approved alternate document such as a NEXUS card, they must show a government-issued photo ID (e.g. Driver's License) and proof of U.S. citizenship such as a U.S. birth certificate, naturalization certificate, or expired U.S. passport. Children under sixteen need only present proof of U.S. citizenship.

From this site: http://www.travel.state.gov/travel/cbpmc/cbpmc_2223.html It appears that as of June 1, 2009 you will need a valid passport to re-enter the US so that would satisfy the Canadian entry requirements.

Ron,

I hope

1) we can do some stuff together

2) you'll have some time for the studio

I'd like to get my stuff for the new CD recorded between the festival and July 28. Get the acoustic stuff mixed and mastered.

Mt Rushmore, huh? Dang, stoned again.

BTW, I am really hoping that Adrien doesn't have us both booked at the same time because I am very much looking forward to hearing/seeing you. Hell, we'll be two of the bionic people there--you with your two replaced hips and me with my one.

No Bruce, you and John are lucky in that your not performing side by side on opposite stages. I still have to do 10 bios then it is to finalize the balancing act. This I think is the hardest part in the organizational part. There are so many things to consider. As an example. Who will open on the stages. No one really wants to be first as folks are still drifting in. How many single act performers are there and what type of music do the play. Who should I have performing opposite the other stage performer. I truly believe that this years line up is very, very good and in the 7 years that I have been doing the juggling act, this years is the toughest.
